The 2026 MacBook Pro again rumored to get a major display upgrade

Although all eyes are on next year’s folding iPhone, Apple would also have major projects for the MacBook Pro.
The agreement in South Korea reports that Apple has an agreement in place with the Samsung display for the OLED panels for the MacBook Pro, and that the first versions of the laptop equipped with OLED arrive on the market by the end of 2026. Repeated the prediction in July.
2026 is when Apple celebrates the 20th anniversary of the MacBook. Although Apple is not supposed to publish a special edition laptop to commemorate the event, the company can take advantage of it to introduce new features or major design modifications. The current MacBook Pro uses mini-LED display panels, and an upgrade to OLED would improve contrast and black levels.
It is not clear if the MacBook Pro 2026 will implement the OLED tandem that Apple uses with the iPad Pro M4. The OLED tandem is used to generate the brightness that Apple wishes for its pro products, so it seems likely that Apple used it for the laptop.
A recent report by Bloomberg Mark Gurman said Apple could wait until the beginning of 2026 to release the M5 MacBook Pro, although Gurman said that “the timing remains fluid”. The M5 MacBook Pro should not have an OLED screen. This laptop is likely to include an upgrade of the chip and some other new features.
If Apple ships the M5 MacBook Pro at the beginning of 2026 and the MacBook Pro OLED (which would probably have a M6 chip) later in the year, it would make a short product cycle. The M2 PRO / MAX MacBook Pro was released in January 2023 and replaced by the M3 series in November 2023, which led to the shortest MacBook MacBook series.
Dealsite also reports that BOE, a display manufacturer, has increased its OLED production to obtain an agreement with Apple to provide iPad screens.
