An moose of Taurus whose persistent presence around an Adirondack Mountain hiking path this summer forced its closure was euthanized after showing seriously deteriorated health signs, environment officials announced on Thursday.

The Goodman Mountain Trail in the wild forest of Lake Horseshoe had been temporarily closed since June 6 after the moose which behaved strangely began to stay on or around the path near the summit. The moose, about 6 feet (1.8 meters) in the shoulder, was spotted for the first time by the path in May and the efforts failed it.

Biologists of fauna and a veterinarian of the state who visited the path near Lake Tupper, New York, saw Wednesday that the moose was seriously emaciated and showed other signs of advanced disease. They determined that euthanasia was the most human line of conduct, taking into account the state of the animal and the low probability of survival, according to the State Department of the Conservation of the Environment.

“Although we never take such a light actions, human euthanasia is sometimes the most responsible conduct. In addition, the information collected from this animal will help to better understand and manage the moose in New York,” said Jacqueline Lendrum, director of the agency’s fish and fauna division, in a prepared press release.

The researchers estimated that the moose was about 4 years old.

Dre Jennifer Bloodgood of Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine said that a necropsy will be carried out to help the authorities understand the cause of the decline of moose and provide more information on threats to major mammals in New York State.

The public -in -law population was wiped out in the 1800s, but gradually came from animals that were walking from other states in the North and Canada from 1980. There could be around 700 moose in the Adirondacks region.
