Trump says he will meet Putin in Alaska next Friday to discuss Ukraine war | Donald Trump

Donald Trump said he would meet Vladimir Putin to discuss the war in Ukraine next week and said that the end of the war and a half should involve “an exchange of territories”.
Trump said he was planning to meet the Russian president next Friday in Alaska. He announced the location in a brief article on his social site Truth.
Earlier in the day, Trump told journalists in the White House that Reunion “would have been earlier, but I suppose that there are security arrangements that people have to do.”
The American president also said: “There will be an exchange of territories towards the improvement of Ukraine and Russia and that the question would be discussed soon, but he has not given any other details.
Bloomberg reported on Friday that the agreement could cement some of Putin’s territorial gains in Ukraine, actually freeing the battle lines in the regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Putin claimed four Ukrainian regions in their entirety, although a large part of their territory remains under Ukrainian control.
US and Russian officials worked on an agreement under which Russia interrupted its offensive in exchange for territorial concessions – making it a politically difficult proposal in Ukraine, said Bloomberg.
Trump’s comments came after the Polish Prime Minister said that a “frost” in the conflict could be close, after talking to the Ukrainian chief Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who communicated with Trump and European leaders in recent days.
“There are certain signals, and we also have an intuition, that perhaps a frost in the conflict – I do not want to say the end, but a frost in the conflict – is closer than further,” said Donald Tusk at a press conference. “There are hopes for this.”
Tusk said Zelenskyy was “very prudent but optimistic” as for the ceasefire, Reuters reported. Ukraine wanted Poland and other European countries to play a role in planning a ceasefire and a possible peace regulation, said Tusk.
Trump previously expressed his desire to meet Putin A counter one without prerequisites, including direct negotiations between Putin and Zelenskyy, fear that Ukraine will be excluded from negotiations for the framework of a potential cease-fire.
If the summit occurs, it would be the first American summit-Russia since 2021, when former president Joe Biden met Putin in Geneva.
Zelenskyy responded by speaking with European leaders, notably the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, and the French president, Emmanuel Macron, who are key conduits to Trump.
American envoy Steve Witkoff had proposed a three meeting with Trump, Putin and Zelenskyy, but the Kremlin had ignored this suggestion, said Putin Yuri Ushakov assistant and “focused on the preparations for a bilateral meeting with Trump in the first place”.
Putin said he was not ready to meet Zelenskyy, even though the Kremlin claimed that preparations were underway for a bilateral summit with Trump next week.
“I have nothing against this in general, it is possible, but certain conditions must be created for this,” said Putin about a meeting with Zelenskyy. “But unfortunately, we are still far from creating such conditions.”
Last month, Trump published an ultimatum for Putin to accept a cease-fire or faced secondary sanctions with the deadline set this Friday. This deadline appeared in place despite the summit plans, although the White House did not say what secondary measures could apply.
Trump targeted India with an increase in prices of 25% for the purchase of Russian oil this week, distinguishing one of Moscow’s economic catalysts in a decision that New Delhi has complained unfair and selective.
Trump had become frustrated by Putin in public in recent months when the war was dragging through his third year and Putin continued to launch night missiles and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities despite Trump’s insistence so that he could conclude an agreement within 24 hours of becoming president.
“Putin … speaks well and then he bomb everyone in the evening,” said Trump last month. “So there is a little problem there.”
