Unpacking Newsom and Company’s Plan to Steal Congressional Seats – RedState

Next week, Gavin Newsom and the California Democrats will unveil the new Congress cards – not independent voters of the redistribution commission led by citizens of the state created to keep the hands of politicians, but driven by politicians themselves in camera.

They also rush to organize a special election of $ 250 million to give themselves the power to do so for the first time in two decades.

The President of the Assembly, Robert Rivas (D), declared with casualness a press conference, as if it announced a new farmer market:

“We plan that these cards will be available next week.”

What he left aside: the California Legislative Assembly will only have five days (from August 18 to August 22) to “make comments from the public” and finalize these cards for one November 4th Special election.

Five days to decide how 39 million Californians will be represented at Congress for the next 10 years.

When he has been in a hurry if it was enough time for a public examination, Newsom insisted that the process is “very transparent” because voters will have “months” to examine the cards before the elections.

Translation: You can see the cards after finishing and locked up.

Yeah, it’s true.

Unpack exactly how this political maneuver should take place.

Step 1: Change the Constitution for the turn of the Commission

The independent redistribution commission of California is not only a law – it is brought to the constitution of the State through amendments approved by voters in 2008 and 2010. Newsom and its allies cannot simply wave it; They must rewrite the rules at the highest level.

This means adopting a constitutional amendment to suspend the Commission, which requires two -thirds supermajority in the two chambers of the Legislative Assembly. Democrats have these figures, so this part is easy.

But then comes the voters. This amendment should appear on the ballot, hence the special elections, and be approved by a simple majority. Democrats will have to convince the Californians to cancel the reforms they proudly spent only 15 years ago.

Of course, they could have tried a simple statutory change instead, but it would have made headlong in prosecution. The Constitutional Road is more difficult politically, but in the test of bullets legally.

Exactly what a private control party would prefer.

Step 2: blur the measurement of the ballot at the speed of the chain

The deadline to qualify this for the ballot of November 2025? August 22ND.

The legislature returns from summer recess on August 18th. This leaves five days to:

  • Abandon the constitutional amendment.
  • Approve the language of the ballot.
  • Certify the measure with the Secretary of State.
  • And, oh yes, reveal and finalize the cards of the congress which will reshape political power for the next ten years.

Five days. Not five weeks. Not five months. Five days.

These are conventional political machines: compressing the calendar so closely that opposition groups cannot organize, the media cannot follow and the public does not have time to ask questions before cement sets.

Step 3: Push the pre-drawn cards with a minimum of public contribution

Here is the botter. The cards are already drawn, and nothing of the voters say that in these five days will change them. The “Public Comment” window is a formality, not a forum.

It is not a consultation. It’s theater. The Commission’s process takes months, with dozens of public hearings on a state scale. This intimate plan entirely this process.

Newsom’s “month to revise” is half a truth – you will have months in look cards, but not a second to to modify them. As they hit your mailbox in a voter guide, they will already be locked up.

Step 4: Sell it as “protection of democracy”

Since the suspension of the commission requires the approval of the voters, the Democrats will set up a complete press press to win hearts and minds before November 4th. Expect a campaign draped in the language of “equity”, “representation” and “protection of voting rights”.

The opponents will be painted as defenders of “Republican Gerrymandering”, even if the independent commission has been designed to block both Parts of redistribution abuse.

This is the oldest tip in the book: supervising any criticism as helping the enemy.

Step 5: Lock a decade of political control

If the voters say yes in November, the legislative assembly cards replace the Commission and the Democrats will have restarted the California’s political landscape in their favor for the next 10 years – a period when the State should lose up to five seats at the Congress after the 2030 census.

Once they have succeeded in the cartography pen, they will never let it go.

In California, where the rule to a party is already the norm, the dismantling of the Commission will erase the little competitiveness remains in the districts of the State Congress.

If the voters reject the measure, the commission survives – but the speed and the secret of this maneuver clearly show: the Democrats are desperate, and they have not finished trying.

What is at stake

With California which was to lose up to five seats in the congress after the 2030 census, each remaining district becomes a prized battlefield. Whoever controls the card controls the part that holds the house in Washington.

The independent commission was created to place the voters above politicians, attracting equitable cards by transparency and the contribution of the public. Bringing this power to the democratic legislature of super-majority would reopen the door of the type of back-shop and that the voters partisan of the card thought that they had closed for good.

The Democrats of California bet the voters will not remember why these protections existed in the first place – and if they are right, the political map is not content to make their way for the next decade.

He will be cemented there.
