Trump says Nvidia will hand the U.S. 15% of its H20 chip sales to China : NPR

The US government will have 15% of the income manufacturer Nvidia will draw sales in China from its micropuce H20, which is used in the development of artificial intelligence, President Trump said on Monday.

At a press conference at the White House, Trump said Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had asked for export restrictions to be attenuated so that Nvidia could sell H20 on the Chinese market.

“And I said that if I’m going to do that, I want you to pay us as a country, because I give you a release,” said Trump.

Trump said that he asked for a 20% drop and that Huang traded at 15%.

Trump called the H20 “obsolete” and “an old chip that China already has … in a different form, different name”. To comply with the export controls, Nvidia designed the H20 to be less powerful than the company’s high -end micropuits.

It is not clear by what executive power the unprecedented payment agreement was falsified and if it is considered a tax.

In a statement, NVIDIA said that it follows “the rules that the US government establishes for our participation in global markets”, although a spokesperson refused to develop and did not confirm the figure of 15%.

Reports in the Financial time And other media have said that the competitor of Nvidia Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) would also adopt the US government 15% of its income from the China sales in its Mi308 chinese. Trump did not mention AMD at the press conference, and the company did not immediately respond to an NPR request for a comment.

The income sharing agreement is the last turn of a back and forth of one of the years on the sales in China of advanced microchips used in the development of artificial intelligence.

During his first administration, Trump has restricted the export of high -end fleas to China for concerns that they could refine the technological advantage of China and threaten US national security. Biden administration has reached export orders on chips and Tamias manufacturing equipment.

This spring, once back to power, Trump has reversed the course, allowing Nvidia to sell H20 fleas to China and take a break for additional restrictions. In July, AMD said that the Commerce Department would examine the licenses for the export of certain fleas to China.

“Although we have not shipped H20 to China for months, we hope that the export control rules will allow America to compete in China and in the world,” the Nvidia statement said.

Trump suggested that Blackwell Chip from Nvidia, which he described as “advanced superduing”, could also be at stake, but in a reduced form – and that he wanted a reduction of 30% to 50% of these sales.

In July, Chinese regulators encountered representatives of Nvidia to ask questions about possible “deadlines” and other security risks in the H20. Nvidia said in a press release that cybersecurity was of crucial importance and that its chips have no waste or means of being accessible or controlled remotely.
