Anthropic is offering Claude to the US government for just $1

The AI wars take place – this time with anthropic entering Openai by offering his Chatbot Claude to the federal government for the negotiation price of only $ 1 per year.

The company based in San Francisco becomes the last AI player to present his flagship LLM in Washington, a decision widely considered as an offer to win the favor of the administration of President Donald Trump. Tuesday’s announcement comes less than a week after Openai revealed an almost identical case, putting the Chatppt available to the General Services Administration for the same token costs.

According to the Financial Times, Claude’s agreement clearly stipulates that federal agencies are not at all forced to use the chatbot. Even if they do, the use of Claude will be limited to a sensitive but not classified work.

Anthropic, Google and Openai have only been authorized recently to provide their chatbots to the United States government. According to the Financial Times, Google is already working on a similar arrangement to offer its Gemini AI to federal agencies at a very small rate.

Josh Gruenbaum, commissioner of the Federal Acquisition Service – who oversees purchases for American agencies – told the FT that the objective is simple: “Get a generalized adoption [of AI tools] in the federal government.

So far, several federal agencies have already started to experiment with AI tools. The Pentagon has awarded $ 200 million in contracts to Anthropic, Google, Openai and Xai. Wired also reported that AI was used in agencies like GSA and HUD to identify redundant federal regulations, although according to their reports, the results were best mixed.

Gruenbaum told Financial Times that the government had no official preference for an AI supplier compared to another. However, it should be noted that President Trump clearly indicated that the White House would refuse to do business with what it calls “Woke IA” – a label applied to any chatbot that he deems pushing “the partisan parties or the ideological agendas”.
