‘The Man in My Basement’ trailer: Corey Hawkins and Willem Dafoe star in this TIFF-bound psychological thriller

Horror films have conditioned us to know that we should never go to a frightening basement. The next psychological thriller Man in my basement Present a new rule focused on the basement so that we can respect: never praise your basement to a shaded man.
Directed by Nadia Latif and based on the novel of the same name of Walter Mosley, Man in my basement Present Charles Blakey, Charles Blakey (Corey Hawkins). He recently lost his mother and work, and now his ancestral house in the African-American district of Sag Harbor, New York, is about to be seized.
Enter the mysterious businessman Anniston Bennet (Willem Dafoe), who brings Charles an offer that he cannot refuse. Anniston wants to rent Charles’ basement for the summer, and in return, he will pay enough money to Charles to eliminate his debts for good. It sounds soft, right? But why is Anniston so determined to rent Charles’ Underground in particular? What harmful actions do they really plot? Based on the trailer, it seems that a cage is involved, and it can never be good.
Man in my basement was co-written by Latif and Mosley, and should do its first at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025. It is distributed by Andcape, formerly known as the Undefated, a black content studio which is part of the ESPN portfolio and also creates content for the Walt Disney Company.
In addition to Hawkins and Dafoe, Man in my basement Also put Anna Diop, Jonathan Ajayi, Gershwyn Eustache Jr., Pamela Nomvete and Tamara Lawrance.
After his first at Tiff, Man in my basement Delivered in certain theaters on September 12. He strikes Hulu and Disney + this fall.
