Oregon man pleads guilty following fatal crash with community college softball team bus

An Oregon man pleaded guilty to two manual managers guilty in the second degree following a fatal accident with a bus transporting a team of community college who left a player and the head coach of the dead team, according to court documents deposited on Wednesday.

The request for guilty advocacy, filed with Coos County Circuit Court, shows that Dowdy also pleaded guilty to three chiefs of third degree assault, five chiefs of attack in the fourth degree, a leadership under the influence and a conduct with a suspended permit.

The lawyer listed for Dowdy in the judicial archives, Jennifer Leigh Leseberg, did not immediately respond to requests asking for comments.

Dowdy was driving his van on April 18 when he crossed a central line and crashed on a bus carrying 10 members of the Umpqua Community Softball team, state police said.

Jami Strinz, 46, described on the school website as the Softball head coach, was driving the Chevrolet Express bus. Police said that she had been declared dead later in a hospital.

Kiley Jones, 19, was declared dead on the scene. The first year of Nampa, Idaho, played the first goal, according to the website of the athletics department.

The team was traveling from a match to Coos Bay, according to a school statement.

The other eight bus occupants suffered moderate serious injuries, police said.

Dowdy was also injured and was admitted to the hospital, state police announced. He was not immediately clear what type of injury he suffered nor how long he was in the hospital.

Dowdy’s conviction is scheduled for September 11.
