Six dead in accident at Colorado dairy


Six people were killed on Wednesday in a dairy in Colorado in an accident that is the subject of toxic gas exposure, officials said.
Six bodies were found when the firefighters responded to “a confined space rescue” around 6 pm, the chief of the district of Weld Southeast Weld Tom Beach.
Deaths are being studied, because possibly the result of a toxic gas exposure in a confined space, said Jolene Weimer, assistant coroner of the county of Weld.
The accident occurred at Prospect Valley Dairy on Weld County Road 18 in Weld county, north of Denver, said the fire service and Weimer.
The Dairy Farmers of America said that the fatal accident had occurred in one of its farms members in Keenesburg, a small town in Interstate 76 in the southern part of the county.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts and most sincere condolences go to friends and families of the deceased,” said American dairy producers. “At this early stage, we have no more details.”
Three other people were treated in a Uchealth hospital in Greeley and were released, Uchealth told NBC Kusa in Denver.
The Sheriff’s Bureau of the Weld County said it had responded but was not the main agency, and that nothing criminal was discovered during the incident.
The names of the dead have not been released and the next parents’ notifications were still taken on Thursday, said the deputy chief coroner. Autopsies will also be completed, she said.
The occupational safety and health administration has been contacted, said Weimer.
