Eau de courgette: rise in foodie perfumes may be linked to weight-loss drugs | Fragrance

An increase in the number of sweet and fragrant perfumes on the market could be linked to an increase in the use of weight loss drugs, according to the MINTEL market research company.
Food -inspired perfumes, with perfume profiles that have vanilla, coffee and caramel and called in industry as “gourmet” perfumes, have increased in popularity in the past three years. Sweet scent launches on the theme of desserts increased by 24% last year, Mintel said.
The increase in popularity occurs in parallel with the increased use of GLP-1 drugs for weight loss, such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro.
“The marks of perfumes can increasingly explore these notes to fight against the abolition of appetite focused on GLP-1,” said Clotilde Draped, a global beauty analyst at Mtel, while consumers “strive to remain thin while enjoying decadent and inspired scents of food”.
The Future of Fragrance 2025 Mint report predicts a new resurgence of sweet perfumes, linked to increased use of weight loss drugs. “Online discussions have linked GLP-1 drugs to changes in appetite and sensory experiences, potentially stimulating interest in sensory stimulation such as perfumes,” said draped.

The global perfume market continues to cause an explosion, with an expected annual growth of 3.3% in 2025, according to the Statista data company.
Popular trends shared on Tiktok include “superposition of perfumes”, which consists of buying several scented body care products, from body oil to lotions, to stimulate the longevity of the perfume.
Draped said that “mood stimulation” is the main reason for using the perfume in the United Kingdom, which leads to the popularity of sweet perfumes that are linked to indulgence.
