USA’s Gio Reyna joins Gladbach from Borussia Dortmund

US midfielder Gio Reyna has completed his transfer to Borussia Mönchengladbach in Bundesliga Rival Borussia Dortmund, clubs announced on Saturday.
Reyna, 22, signed a three -year contract in the summer of 2028.
For Reyna, it means an end for his six -year stay in Dortmund, where he started his professional career after leaving the New York City FC Academy.
He was a new start for Reyna after his first important promise was blocked by a series of injuries and a fight for the minutes of the first team team.
“Borussia is a big fantastic club,” said Reyna in a statement. “I am delighted that the transfer could have been finished and I can’t wait to know everyone here, as well as to tackle the next games together.”
Reyna only made three Bundesliga departures in Germany last season after spending the second half of the previous campaign on loan to the Premier League Nottingham Forest.
While he was part of the Dortmund team who reached the quarter -finals of the club World Cup this summer, Reyna has only one appearance of a 12 -minute substitute. His participation in the tournament nevertheless meant that he had missed the American team of the national team for the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Reyna, son of former American midfielder Claudio Reyna, won 32 capitalizations for the USMNT and scored eight goals. With only a solitary appearance of substitute since Mauricio Pochettino took over last year, Reyna now hopes that the move to Gladbach will be able to rejuvenate his career and gain a place in the American team for the World Cup next summer on the soil at home.
He joined a Gladbach team that finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season and launched the new home campaign in Hamburg on Sunday.
“Gio brings a lot of experience with him, in addition to being a young player with a lot of potential,” said Roland Virkus, director general of Borussia for sport. “We have been monitoring him for some time now and are convinced that he has the necessary qualities to help us in the field.
“He knows the Bundesliga and can play a number of different positions in attack.”
