France summons US ambassador over ‘unacceptable’ letter about antisemitism

Washington – France summoned the American ambassador to Paris after the diplomat, Charles Kushner, wrote a letter to the French president Emmanuel Macron alleging that the country did not do enough to fight anti -Semitism.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs published on Sunday a statement announcing that it had summoned Kushner to appear on Monday to the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and that its allegations “are unacceptable”.
The White House and the US State Department did not immediately respond to messages asking for comments. The call of the ambassador is an official and public opinion of dissatisfaction.
Kushner, a real estate developer, is the father of President Donald Trump’s son -in -law, Jared Kushner.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its declaration, said that “France firmly rejects these allegations” of Kushner and that the French authorities have “fully mobilized” to combat an increase in anti -Semitic acts since the attack of October 7, 2023 by Hamas on Israel, deeming the acts “intolerable”.
The content of the letter has not been published.
Kushner’s allegations violate international law and the obligation not to interfere with the domestic affairs of another country, said the French ministry, and “they are also not the quality of the transatlantic partnership between France and the United States and the confidence which must prevail between the allies.”
Dust follows Macron’s rejection last week of the accusations of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu only the intention of France to recognize a Palestinian state fueling anti -Semitism.
France is home to the largest Jewish population in Western Europe, with around 500,000 Jews. This represents around 1% of the national population.
Diplomatic discord comes as French relations were faced with tensions this year in the midst of Trump’s trade war and a split on the future of United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon. France in particular opposed the American push to finish the peacekeeping operation known as Unifil, with a vote on the question set for the end of the month by the United Nations Security Council.
France and the United States have also been divided on the support of Ukraine in its war with Russia, but the split softened with Trump expressing its support for security guarantees and a warm meeting with Macron and other European leaders in the White House last week.
Trump at the end of his first mandate as president forgave Charles Kushner, who pleaded guilty for years earlier for tax evasion and made it illegal campaign donations.
Her son Jared is a former Trump’s White House’s main advisor who is married to Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka.
