Elon Musk accuses Apple and OpenAI of stifling AI competition in antitrust lawsuit

Elon Musk targeted Apple and Openai on Monday in an antitrust trial alleging that the iPhone manufacturer and the Chatgpt manufacturer are involved in thwarting the competition in artificial intelligence.
The 61 -page complaint filed in Texas Federal Court follows a threat that Musk made two weeks ago when he accused Apple of unjustly promoting Openai and Chatgpt in the iPhone App Store App for the best AI applications.
Musk’s post insinuated that Apple had faked the system against chatgpt competitors such as the Grok chatbot made by its own XAI. Now, he details a litany of grievances in the trial – filed by XAI and another of his corporate entities, X Corp. – in order to earn monetary damages and a court order prohibiting the alleged illegal tactics.
The double -barrel legal attack weaves together several recently unfolding stories to redesign a one -year -old partnership between Apple and Openai as a veiled conspiracy to stifle competition during a technological change which could prove as revolutionary as the exit in 2007 of the iPhone.
“This is a story of two monopolists in uniting their forces to guarantee that their domination continues in a world quickly motivated by the most powerful technology that humanity has ever created: artificial intelligence,” said the trial.
The complaint depicts Apple as a company that considers AI as an “existential threat” to its future success, which prompted it to end with OPENAI in order to protect the iPhone franchise which has long been its biggest money manufacturer.
Some of the allegations accusing Apple of trying to protect the iPhone from “super applications”, like this one, it has long been to create with X, echo a antitrust trial posted against Apple last year by the United States Ministry of Justice.
The complaint throws open as a threat to humanity determined to make profits before public security while it is trying to rely on its phenomenal growth since the release of Chatgpt at the end of 2022. The representation reflects that that already drawn in a federal trial that Musk posted last year, alleging that Optai had betrayed its founding mission to serve as a non -profit research laboratory.
OPENAI ATNA with legal action against MUSK accusing it of harassment – an allegation that the company cited in its response to the antitrust trial on Monday. “This last deposit complies with the current harassment model of Mr. Musk,” Openai said in a press release.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
The trial node revolves around Apple’s decision to use Chatgpt as an “response engine” supplied with AI on the iPhone when the integrated technology of its device could not meet user needs. The partnership announced last year was part of Apple’s late entry into AI’s race which was supposed to be supplied mainly by its own technology on the devices, but the company has still not been able to hold all its promises.
The own Apple AI gaps can help generate greater use of chatgpt on the iPhone, offering OPENAI invaluable data that is not available for Grok and other potential competitors because it is currently an exclusive partnership.
The Alliance prompted Apple an incentive to poorly increase the ChatPPT in the IA IPA IPT -Store IPA classification, according to the trial. Other AI of Deekseek and Perplexity AI applications periodically reached first place in the AI App Store App for at least certain parts of the world since Apple has announced its agreement with Chatgpt.
The trial does not mention the potential threat that Chatgpt could also pose to Apple and the future popularity of the iPhone. As part of its expansion efforts, Openai recruited the former designer of Apple Jony IVE to supervise a project aimed at building a device fueled by AI which, according to many analysts, could possibly set up a challenge to the iPhone.
