Illinois governor JB Pritzker criticized President Donald Trump for planning to bring the national guard troops to Chicago while finishing the police and local police.

At a press conference on Monday, the Democratic legislator said Trump’s plan to reproduce his takeover from Washington DC, and bring federal forces to Midwest was not an answer to the increase in crime.

“Crime drops to Chicago. Murders are down 32% compared to last year, and have almost reduced in half since 2021. The shots have been down 37% since last year, and 57% against four years ago,” said Pritzker, adding that real estate crimes in Chicago also decreased last year.

“Thus, in the event of doubt about the motivation behind Trump’s military professions, note that thirteen of the best cities of the homicide rate have republican governors. None of these cities is Chicago,” said Pritzker. “Eight of the first ten states with the highest homicide rates are led by the Republicans. None of these states is the Illinois. ”

The governor continued, stressing that the cities of Tennessee and Mississippi have higher crime rates than Chicago. “And yet, Donald Trump sends troops here? And not there? Do you ask why,” he said.

Pritzker accused the president and the Republicans of having reduced more than $ 800 million in public security and crime prevention at national level. He added that Trump had reduced $ 158 million in Illinois funding for violence prevention programs, $ 71 million for law implementation grants and $ 137 million for child protection measures.

“Trump finances the police,” said Pritzker.

While speaking to journalists earlier on Monday, the president fell when he was asked if he planned to send national guard troops to cities and states led by the Republicans who are experiencing high crime rates. In the recent list of 30 American cities in Newsweek (with at least 100,000 residents) which have had the greatest number of violent crimes against people, more than half of these cities were in states led by republican governors.

Pritzker told Trump to stay outside of Chicago. “You are neither sought after here, nor necessary here. Your remarks on this effort in recent weeks have betrayed a continuous shift in your mental faculties and do not adapt to the auspicious office that you occupy,” he said.
