AT&T snatches up wireless spectrum licenses from EchoStar for $23 billion
HAS&T spent 23 billion dollars to acquire certain echostar wireless spectrum licenses, a significant expansion from&T-Band’s low and mid band cover networks.
HAS&Ti said Tuesday that licenses covered practically all American markets – more than 400 in total – than the company plans to deploy as soon as possible to attract more internet subscribers at home and achieve its growth goals.
The agreement also strengthens the long -term service agreement between at&T and Echostar, allowing the latter to operate as a hybrid mobile network operator providing wireless service under its mobile Boost brand. HAS&T will be the main partner of Echostar network services.
Echostar’s actions, based in Englewood, in Colorado, climbed 76% to the opening bell on Tuesday.
“This acquisition strengthens and extends our spectrum portfolio while improving the wireless and internet and home and home internet experience on even more markets,” said customers&The CEO of T John Stankey. “We add fuel to our winning strategy to invest in wireless and high speed assets to become the best American connectivity supplier.”
At the end of 2024, at&T has declared that it would expand its large strip network of fiber to more than 50 million locations by the end of 2029, while actively working to leave its copper network operations inherited on most of its wired footprint.
HAS&T plans to have greatly completed the modernization of its 5G wireless network with open technology by 2027. The company said that the network could support ultra-fast download speeds and serve as a platform for new products and Genai innovation.
In his latest report on results in July,&T said he expected to achieve up to 8 billion dollars in cash tax savings from 2025 to 2027 due to tax provisions in Big Bill Bill of Republicans. HAS&T estimated that it would invest $ 3.5 billion in these savings in its network to accelerate its fiber internet construction.
Actions of&T Inc., based in Dallas, increased by less than 1% on Tuesday.
