Donald Trump suggested that he already had a replacement in mind for the governor of the federal reserve he is trying to force, even if Lisa Cook said she would continue the administration for her withdrawal.
Speaking at a meeting of the cabinet over three hours on Tuesday, the American president said: “We have very good people for this position. I think, maybe in my mind, I have someone I love.”
Trump said that he would consult Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary, and Howard Lutnick, Trade Secretary.
Trump would have considered the possibility of appointing his economic advisor Stephen Miran to serve the rest of the term cook, who only expressed in 2038. Earlier this month, Trump appointed Miran to serve a much shorter term, replacing another member of the Fed board of directors, Adriana Kugler, a nominated to Biden who was to be replaced in five months.
Cook said that she would continue to keep her position as governor of the independent central bank and his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, called Trump’s decision to dismiss her “illegal”.
