Patrick Murphy discusses upcoming Alabama football season, connection to Ryan Grubb

Alabama Softball coach Patrick Murphy is eager to see the Crimson Tide take the football field on Saturday to launch the 2025 season. Murphy joined Hey Coach On Wednesday, where he discussed his enthusiasm to watch Kalen Deboer in his second year in Tuscaloosa.
According to the overviews he saw the practice, the signs of a special team are there. He described why, as a coach, he thinks that the crimson tide is in a big year.
“How can you not like Kalen Deboer?” Said Murphy. “Humble, no ego, sympathetic, just a great guy. Knows his things.
Patrick Murphy is the softball coach in Alabama since the 1999 season. However, his roots are in Iowa where he grew up and also attended Northern Iowa.
He discovered by meeting the first -year offensive coordinator of Crimson Tide Ryan Grubb Earlier this year, Grubb was also Iowa. Not only that, but both fell back into cities of less than 1,000 people. Not only that, but that everyone knew a friend of a friend.
“We had a staff meeting perhaps in January, February and everyone in the sports department was there,” said Murphy. “I turned around and said,” Does Ryan Grubb here? ” Someone said, “Yes, he’s here. So, my assistant coach and I ran in his office before spending his day and I entered it and I probably surprised it or frightened it. We started talking and, believe it or not, it is a smaller city from Iowa than me.
“And one of his best friends in high school was the brother of one of my best friends in the north of Iowa. So, very small world. And if you are from Iowa, it’s six degrees of separation. You will know someone who knows you. Just a great guy and we are really, really happy that he is here.”
In the mind, Murphy is just a little more invested when the Crimson Tide begins the season. Alabama embodies Florida State at 2 p.m. CT Saturday in Tallahassee.
