Anti-ICE California Senator Is Buddy-Buddy With Activists That Helped Spark LA Riots

The Democratic Senator Alex Padilla of California has maintained close relations for years with a group linked to anti-carrying riots and now wants it to receive $ 2 million in taxpayers.

Padilla marked the funds of the coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (Chirla) in May of the proposals for a budget for the year 2026, according to his office. Padilla has spent years organizing meetings with Chirla and has won the praise of the group funded by taxpayers, which is the subject of a legislative investigation after encouraging demonstrations that led to riots against the application of immigration to Los Angeles. Chirla was one of the many groups organizing demonstrations on June 6 against immigration and customs application (ICE) which finally led to riot days in Los Angeles. The Republicans subsequently sent letters to the group wondering if she had used previous federal funds to support violent activities, said the group called “vicious lies”.

Press releases and social networks publications show that Chirla and Padilla, that the security guards detained on June 12 for interrupting a press conference by the Trump administration, have had close relations for years.

Chirla celebrated when Padilla became a senator for the first time in 2020 and gave her left -wing immigration program a larger foot on Capitol Hill.

“We congratulate this son of Mexican immigrants from the San Fernando Valley and we are impatient to work with him in his new role,” said a press release.

Padilla has repeatedly encountered chirla activists on immigration problems up to 2021, in particular to consult them on politics, according to press releases and the Facebook account of Chirla. He joined Chirla and other groups in Los Angeles in April 2023 to announce a bill which would grant a way of citizenship for illegal immigrants, according to his website. The Padilla office presented praise from the executive director of Chirla, Angelica Salas, who said: “We will work with Senator Padilla and others who have never hesitated in our permanent residence request.”

The legislator’s website is strewn with Chirla’s support for its efforts to loosen immigration policies on other occasions.

“The funds will transform an existing and vacant building into a multi-service community resilience and a resource center for community members in need”, the demand for functionality of $ 2 million in Padilla for Chirla Reads,

Chirla organized its demonstration on June 6 after a head of the local union of the International Union of Service Employees (SEIU) was arrested earlier during the day for pretending to obstruct ice vehicles. The demonstration took place in a federal building after Chirla and other groups published an appeal for coordinated action on social networks, the DCNF previously reported. Hundreds of people have arrived, leading to clashes with the police and the riots that continued for days and prompted President Donald Trump to deploy troops of the National Guard in the city.

The activist group Hispanic Federation deplored on June 9 that “the members of our Partla partners” had been “detained and injured” during the protest.

Padilla previously obtained approval from the Sieu California campaign, the union chapter which saw its arrested leader. He also joined the union at the events of his first year at the Congress, including a local town hall in the Seiu.

The office of Padilla, Chirla and Seiu California, did not respond to requests for comments.
