Plane crash near Fort Morgan airport in Colorado kills 1, injures 3

One person was killed and three others were injured after two planes collided outdoors near the Municipal Airport in Fort Morgan of Colorado on Sunday, law enforcement officials announced.

The Sheriff’s Bureau of Morgan County said that deputies and emergency staff rushed to the scene after receiving a plane accident report around 10:45 am when they arrived, they discovered that two planes had fallen into fields outside the airport.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a little Cessna was on the last approach of the track when he was struck halfway by a second plane. Witnesses reported having seen the two planes rushing before hunting on the ground.

The two planes caught fire when they hit the ground, according to the sheriff’s office. Smoke plumes were able to rise from the wreck while the first stakeholders and passers -by tried to turn off the fires.

Each plane transported two people. The occupants of Cessna underwent minor injuries and were released on the scene, said the sheriff’s office.

One of the individuals aboard the second plane – an additional Flugzeugbau EA300 – was taken to a local hospital. The other was declared dead on the scene by the Coroner office of the county of Morgan.

In a press release, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the two planes collided while they were trying to land.

The FAA said that the two agencies would investigate, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) taking the lead and providing updates.

“We present our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim in this tragic event,” said the sheriff’s office in an article on Facebook. “This is an active survey and the names of the parties involved are not published at the moment.”

The sheriff’s office also thanked the citizens who tried to extinguish the flames before the arrival of the firefighters and other first speakers.
