Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler to retire from Congress

The longtime democratic representative Jerry Nadler, a liberal lion and the oldest member of the New York congress, will not ask for re -election.
Nadler represents a large band of the Manhattan district and had been president and classification member of the powerful judicial committee of the Chamber, which put it at the center of three presidential dismissal.
By revealing his plans at the New York Times, Nadler admitted that his party and the country were in the midst of a generational change, and it was time for him to accept this reality.
He discussed what happened to former president Joe Biden, who gave in to his party’s calls to withdraw in the last elections after a disastrous debate raised questions about his mental acuity.
“Watching the thing Biden really said something about the need for a generational change in the party, and I think I want to respect this,” Nadler told Times.
Despite his seniority, Nadler was necessarily faced with a solid main challenge of a potentially wide field of younger and more progressive challengers.
Nadler’s swinging in Washington was already declining. He was withdrawn from his perch as the best democrat of the Judicial Committee of the Chamber at the start of this congress, a sign that the party pushed to younger leadership.
The Nadler seat is one of the most blue in the country, so it will probably remain in democratic hands during the mid-term elections in 2026.
NBC contacted the Nadler campaign to comment.
