I have had several laptops of play at this stage, and honestly, they are my favorite way to play PC games thanks to the versatility and the mobility they offer, but there is no speech to choose to be a laptop player is delivered with compromises – or at least, so I thought.

With more games obtaining native mac versions, I found that a lot of compromise that I thought were needed to play in a laptop -form factor that are not the ones I have to live with.

I have been in laptops of play for a decade

The last time I had an office game PC was in 2015, and even then, I changed for a portable ITX construction (my second) because I often had to move my PC. Shortly after, the swinging breakdowns of my country became so bad that my desktop computer could not even be on for 12 hours of the day.

It was at this moment that I went to a laptop of play. I had always avoided this movement, because, frankly, the laptops of play were too expensive and had weak performance. However, at some point, it changed with much more effective components and lower prices. The Six Core Intel processor and the GTX GTX 1660 TI GTX in this first laptop surpassed my Haswell Quad-Core desk with its AMD R9 390 GPU, and only costs $ 1,000 in today’s money. I made my first game of Cyberpunk 2077 On this gigabyte laptop.

Since then, I have only had laptops of play and I have not really felt the need to build and use a game office again.

There are sacrifices, but it’s worth the advantages

Of course, Dollar-For Dollar A laptop of the game will give you pure and simple worse performance, but it is not the same as offering poor performance. Each game laptop that I owned has been able to perform contemporary games at more than 60 frames per second at 1080p using the highest or closest settings. Connected to a 1440p screen to an office with average to high settings works just as well before even taking into account performance strengthening technology like DLSS.

In other words, for me, performance and quality are quite good. It is generally as good or slightly better than current generation consoles at the end more budgetary of the spectrum of the laptop of the game, and if money is not an object, you can in fact obtain high -end desktops from a laptop of play, but the economy really does not make sense when you mount the levels.

But whatever the Windows gaming laptop that you buy, there are real sacrifices beyond a lower performance ceiling. For me, the worst is noise. All my laptops of playing were real criers when he just played games. This means that noise strengthening headphones are a requirement. It’s great for me, but not for someone else in the same room.

The other problem is that you are only going to play players.

You are not going to execute these laptops of play on a USB-C charger (although 240W USB-C has recently become one thing), which means Schlepping a large power brick wherever you go.

My MacBook has shown what is possible for laptop games

While I already saw great things from the point of view of the games with my old M1 MacBook Air, get the new M4 Pro MacBook Pro really opened my eyes to what I was missing as regards games in the laptop space.

There are two games that I play a lot that have native versions of macOS: Baldur’s Gate 3 And Cyberpunk 2077. My M4 MacBook has 24 GB of unified RAM, and a GPU that on paper should only provide two thirds of the performance made by my RTX 4060 laptop. In practice, these two games work, subjectively, almost the same on my MacBook and Windows Laptop. Even if the image frequencies can be a little lower on the Mac, the visual parameters and the resolutions are comparable and the two comfortably exceed 60 frames per second.

Ok, but what? Well, my MacBook does the job calmly. Even after several hours of Cyberpunk 2077, there is No audible fan noise. If you hold your ear to the laptop, there is a calm “Whoosh”, and the chassis is barely hot to the touch. This makes sense, because my Windows laptop can draw almost 300 W of power under load, while my MacBook remains well under 100W even in the worst case. So there is simply less heat to manage and therefore less noise.

Even more impressive, if you unplug the Mac, Performance does not change. I could realistically make cyberpunk to my typical settings for about an hour on the battery, and maybe twice if I could quench a cap of 30 frames per second. Ok, so what? Who plays like that? Well, consider that the laptop load via USB-C, and using the 65W feed bank that I bought for my laptop, I can only double my full execution time on the go.

In more practical terms, when I finished with work for the day, it is much easier to simply catch my MacBook and go to play an hour or two of cooperative Baldur’s Gate 3 With my wife on her PlayStation 5 than carrying my Windows game laptop with her brick at the bottom. In other words, if a game has both a Mac and Windows version, I play it on my MacBook now.

It is difficult to accept the disadvantages of Windows game laptops now

Listen, I know that I compare here apples and oranges here – but after experiencing a laptop game on a MacBook which apparently compromises on nothing and is much more practical than even my old Windows Ultra Slim game laptop “, it is very difficult to play my Windows games on my game laptop.

Now that I know It is possible to build a silent, small and powerful game laptop (with a breathtaking screen, but it’s another conversation), the Windows game laptops feel, well, well, obsolete. Old -fashioned. I could even say raw.

The good news is that the progress of the technology of the X86 fleas gave us quite incredible apu of companies like AMD. These electric window chips and game tablets, SIP Power, and could in theory be the foundation of an experience similar to what my Mac can provide. Until then, I will play on my MacBook as much as possible.
