Beach Park man crushed to death when car rolls on top of him

A Beach Park man died when a car he was working on rolled off a ramp and crushed him, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

David Sears, 56, was killed Tuesday at his residence in the 3500 block of North Lewis Avenue, authorities said.

Police were called to the residence at about 7:10 p.m. for a report of an injured person. Officers found Sears pinned beneath a vehicle in the driveway of his residence.

Authorities said it appeared that he was underneath the car doing maintenance work when the vehicle rolled backward off the ramp that was holding it up. The cause of death was listed as traumatic asphyxia and blunt force trauma, the coroner’s office said.
