What specs will the iPhone 17 series have? Here are my expert predictions
The iPhone 17 series is almost there, with Apple set to reveal the iPhone 17 itself with the iPhone 17 Pro, the iPhone 17 Pro Max and probably iPhone 17 air on September 9. But you don’t have to wait until then to have a good idea for what to expect.
Between leaks, rumors, past form and my own expert analysis, I gathered a list of probable specifications for these four phones.
So read the rest to see which aspects will probably be improved, which will not be and if these phones deserve to be upgraded.

Iphone 17 specifications predictions
As you can see in the list of above specifications, the iPhone 17 could have a lot in common with the iPhone 16, with leaks pointing to a screen that is again 6.1 inch. And if it is the same size, I expected that it is also the same resolution – which means 1179 x 2556. However, a largely rumor upgrade that the screen could obtain is a 120 Hz cooling rate, against 60 Hz on the current model.
We have not heard much about rear cameras, which suggests that they will probably be largely unchanged-so expect a 48 Mp wide and 12 Ultra-Large camera. However, the front camera was supposed to have gone from 12 Mp to 24 Mp, which seems likely.
The chipset must also be improved, with leaks and common sense pointing to an A19 – up the A18 of the iPhone 16. However, most sources believe that the RAM of the iPhone 17 will arrive again at 8 GB.
We have not heard much about the storage of the iPhone 17, which is probably unchanged compared to the capacities of 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB of its predecessor, and there are few news on the battery capacity either, so I would expect it to be at least 3561mAh as last year.
However, on the basis of the past form, there is a good chance that it can have a larger battery, especially since Apple could use a lighter and thinner motherboard, which would leave more space for an additional battery capacity.
Predictions of the iPhone 17 air specifications
The iPhone 17 air would be a brand new model for Apple, so we cannot look at it in terms of upgrading its predecessor, but its screen could at least be similar to that of the iPhone 16 Plus, with leaks that put it at 6.7 inches. That said, some reports suggest that it could rather be 6.6 inches, or somewhere in the middle.
I’m going to guess 6.7 inches, because that’s what the iPhone 16 Plus A and the iPhone 17 air would take the most place in the line.
In this case, it would probably also have the same resolution as the iPhone 16 Plus, which means 1290 x 2796. However, as for the basic model, it could be increased at a higher cooling rate of 120 Hz, in many leaks.
The cameras of the iPhone 17 Air could however be a degradation, with leaks constantly pointing to the presence of a single alive of 48 MP in the back – this is probably a compromise necessary to turn the phone. This could be joined by a 24MP camera at the front, although some leaks suggest that it will rather have one.
There are contradictory reports on the question of whether the iPhone 17 air will have an A19 chipset or an A19 Pro – with a GPU nucleus less than pro phones. We have heard the latter more recently, so it is my best supposition for the moment.
There is also no real agreement on the question of whether the iPhone 17 air will have 8 GB of RAM or 12 GB, but since the reports put the price similar to that of the iPhone 16 Plus, I assume that it will have just 8 GB.
This similar pricing would also make me think that storage could be the same as the iPhone 16 Plus, which means 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB of configurations. However, the battery will be almost certainly smaller, since it should be a thin phone. In fact, we heard that it could be less than 3,000 mAh, which seems credible.
Specific predictions of iPhone 17 Pro
Now we arrive at the iPhone 17 Pro, and as with the basic model, there may not be a lot of screen upgrades. In fact, it may have exactly the same screen as the iPhone 16 Pro.
More specifically, the leaks suggest that it has a 6.3 -inch 120 Hz screen (with this refresh rate not being an upgrade here), and if the size is the same, the resolution will probably also – so I predict a resolution of 1206 x 2622.
However, the cameras could be in certain upgrades, because with the same cameras of 48 MP wide and 48 MP ultra -light as last year, we heard many sources that the telephoto could also be 48 MP – up 12 MP on the iPhone 16 Pro.
That it will always offer a 5x optical zoom is less clear, with a source saying that it will rather be a 3.5X zoom camera, and another going in the opposite direction and saying that it could reach 8x zoom. But as there is a lack of consensus, I will guess that it is still 5x for the moment.
As with the other phones in the iPhone 17 series, the front camera here is largely subject to an upgrade, from 12MP to 24MP.
The iPhone 17 Pro chipset will of course also be better, with an A19 PRO probably defined to replace the A18 Pro from the current model, and several sources also say that it will have 12 GB of RAM – against 8 GB in the iPhone 16 Pro. That said, a source indicates that it will always have 8 GB, so it could go in both directions.
We have also heard many sources that the iPhone 17 Pro could start with 256 GB of storage, rather than the 128 GB of its predecessor. But it is unlikely that it exceeds the current 1 TB at the top of the range.
And finally, the iPhone 17 Pro will likely have a battery at least as high as the 3,582mAh in the iPhone 16 Pro. But if something, it will probably be a higher capacity, because Apple often increases the capacity of new models.
IPhone 17 pro max specifications predictions
The iPhone 17 Pro Max should be the flagship model of the iPhone 17 series. But as for other phones, its screen may not be a major objective, with leaks suggesting that – like the iPhone 16 Pro Max – it will have a 6.9 -inch screen at 120 Hz.
We have not heard much about the resolution, but as with the other models, I suppose that it would still be the same if the size remains the same, which means 1320 x 2868.
Its cameras could be in the same upgrades as the iPhone 17 Pro would have – which means a new telephoto lens camera of 48 MP in place of its 12MP predecessor, and a new 24MP camera at the front, with the wide and ultra -large lenses remaining at 48MP, as last year.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max chipset will also be improved, the consensus being that it will have an A19 Pro chipset, probably associated with 12 GB of RAM (against 8 GB in the iPhone 16 Pro Max).
However, we have not heard much about its storage, which will probably remain unchanged – with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB options.
And the battery is an interesting element because we have not heard many rumors on this subject, but it is suggested that it could reach 5,000 mAh, which would be a fairly large jump on the 4,685mAh of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
It is a greater increase than Apple, but an increase of a certain quantity is likely, and reaching around 5,000 mAh certainly does not seem impossible.
