Congo’s health ministry announces a new Ebola outbreak

Kinshasa, Congo – The Congo Ministry of Health announced on Thursday a new Ebola epidemic on the 16th in the Central African country, after a affirmed case in the province of southern Kasai.
“To date, the provisional report shows 28 suspicious cases and 15 deaths, including 14 in Boulapé and 1 in Mweka, as well as four health workers,” said Samuel-Roger Kamba, Minister of Health of Congo.
He added that the mortality rate, estimated at 53.6%, showed the severity of the situation.
He said that the figures were temporary and that research was underway. Suspicious cases and deaths have presented symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea and hemorrhage. The Ebola virus is very contagious and can be contracted through body fluids such as vomit, blood or sperm. The disease it causes is a rare but serious disease – and often fatal – in humans.
