SEC SEAN DUFFY: Trump’s ‘Big, beautiful bill’ funds new US air traffic control system

Thanks to President Donald Trump, America is built again. And we build large and beautiful infrastructures beyond our roads and bridges for 21st century planes. It starts with that, a large and beautiful bill to launch the construction of a brand new air traffic control system.

I recently returned from the representation of the United States to the Paris Air Show. The largest aviation event in the world has shown the latest technologies transforming modern airspace. Deliveries of unmanned drones for supersonic air travel, the way we fly in the sky of the next century will go far beyond the first. A brand new air traffic control system is a prerequisite for the inauguration of the next generation of aviation.

While abroad, I learned that France’s air traffic control systems have recently undergone their own modernization process, and they note an increase in the efficiency of air space by more than 34%. This means that they can move more planes and more people than before with fewer obstacles. It also means that the largest nation in the world is overwhelmed by France – the same people who take most of the summer for a vacation. We can and must do better.

Duffy urges the Senate to adopt a correction of the $ 12.5 billion air traffic system in Big Beautiful Bill

The last administration was consumed by an obsession with identity policy. They focused on modifying terms such as “cockpit” and “aviators” instead of fighting several surveillance warnings on the vulnerabilities of our airspace. The last guys thought that air traffic repair was simply too difficult to do. As a transport secretary, I focus on security, innovation and the construction of big and beautiful things. But we need to adopt the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill” to start.

Elvis and the Rolling Stones still pumped Billboard panel strokes when our current air traffic control network has been integrated. Drinkles, copper wires and rotating phones – This is the type of obsolete equipment on which our system is based to manage aviation. It is unacceptable, and it led to years of seed, delays and cancellations in our airspace.

The Trump administrator offers a brand new air traffic control system to improve security, “unlock the future of air trips”

To be clear, the flight is safe. We have several redundancies in place, but the system shows its age. The sky is now busy than ever, with drones, air taxis and commercial space vessels pushing the limits of aviation. Past systems cannot manage the flights of the future.

This is why I recently deployed a plan to create a brand new system for controlling the world’s desire. It is time that we take our current equipment in terms of retirement from ebay and radioshack at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. Breakdowns in Newark and the January disaster in DCA show why politicians can no longer procrastinate. These problems do not suddenly appear in six months, and we cannot wait for another decade to resolve them.

The remarkable progress we have achieved in Newark is proof of what we can do. After short breakdowns that have frightened leaflets and a delay in travelers, we have strengthened air -safety with optical fibers, replaced obsolete copper connections and accelerated the construction of a new track.

With $ 12.5 billion in financing for the “Big, Beautiful Bill”, we can start with major changes in our air traffic control system. We will need more money, but this critical funding is a start to cover the advanced radar, fiber optic lines and new radios – key equipment that should have been integrated years ago. This is not the new system that Trump’s president wants, and America deserves, but it is an important deposit to finish work.

The main thing is as follows: every day passing without funding is another day that my department cannot be built. The choice before the congress is clear – adopt this one, large and beautiful bill and let our department get to work. A “no” vote leaves us zero dollar to start replacing our aging system.

No problem has ever united the main American airlines that the need to revolutionize air traffic control. In May, 10 airline leaders wrote a common letter approving my construction plan for a new advanced system.

“Aviation remains the safest mode of transport in the United States,” they wrote. “But for it to remain if, serious upgrades must occur now.”

Their letter to the congress compliments the support of more than 50 aviation organizations joining the coalition of modern skies to support our initiative. The only, large and beautiful bill offers a 12.5 billion dollars deposit on this critical project. I urge the congress to do so without delay. Our ability to build a brand new air traffic control system will define aviation for the next century and ensure the safety of air trips for future generations.
