Chicago Mayor Promises to Defend City After Newest Donald Trump ‘Threats’

The mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, retaliated on President Donald Trump after having published a generated image of artificial intelligence (AI) of himself in a parody of the film Apocalypse now in an apparent threat to the city.
Nowsweek Contacted the Governor of Illinois JB Pritzker and Johnson’s offices by email on Saturday afternoon outside the normal office hours to comment.
Why it matters
Tensions between the Trump administration and Illinois officials continue to go up while the president has made repeated threats to extend his immigration repression operations in Chicago.
Trump degenerated the issue by revealing that he would plan to send troops from the National Guard to the windy city. Trump deployed the National Guard to Washington, DC, in August and continued to boast the decline in the crime that followed. He therefore also suggested the deployment of the National Guard in the cities led by Democrats to face the crime.
Illinois political leaders have rejected the idea, arguing that there are many cities with higher global crime rates, and the number of murders has dropped in Chicago in recent years after a peak during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last month, Johnson’s office published updated statistics for the update crime that showed that Homicides in Chicago fell by 32.3%, and the overall violent crime was 21.6%.

What to know
Johnson recently took measures to combat the strong federal increase in Trump, signing an executive decree at the end of last month which led municipal agencies and the police to resist cooperation with the Federal Immigration Application. The mayor quoted “climbing threats from the federal government”.
Trump then published an image of the AI of himself squatting on Saturday in front of Chicago with a burning fire on the ground behind him and helicopters flying over the city. Trump is designed after Lieutenant-Colonel Bill Kilgore Apocalypse nowAnd he parodified the famous character’s line by writing: “I love the smell of deportations in the morning …”
“Chicago about to find out why this is called the Ministry of War,” said Trump, adding three helicopter emojis.
The threats of the president are under the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our constitution.

Johnson has published a screenshot of Trump’s post and wrote on X: “The threats of the president are under the honor of our nation, but the reality is that he wants to occupy our city and break our constitution. We must defend our democracy against this authoritarianism by protecting itself and protecting Chicago by Donald Trump.”
Trump has continued to display various statistics on Chicago’s crime in recent weeks, highlighting shots and murders.
What people say
The White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson, said Nowsweek In a statement by e-mail: “Eight people were killed and more than 50 people were injured last weekend in Chicago, but local Democrats are more upset by a post by the President – who tells you everything you need to know about the twisted priorities of Democrats and why Chicago had the most murderers of any American city for 13 consecutive years.”
The mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, wrote on Saturday on X: “”[Chicago Police Department] The CPD has withdrawn 24,000 street cannons since I went into office, most of which come from states managed by the Republicans outside Illinois. The Trump administration’s budgetary reductions to the federal armed violence prevention agencies like ATF will conduct less surveys and operations with local law enforcement, endangering our historical progress on community security. “”
President Donald Trump wrote earlier this week on Truth Social: “At least 54 people were shot dead in Chicago during the weekend, 8 people have been killed. The last two weekends were similar. Chicago is the worst most dangerous city in the world, by far. Pritzker really needs help, he won’t know him yet.
He also wrote in other articles than “Chiacgo is the world capital of murder” and that “crime is completely out of control in Chicago. 6 dead, 24 seriously injured, last week alone !!!”
