Bronx baby punched in head by mom’s boyfriend has died, case now homicide

A little girl from the Bronx on the support of life after his mother’s boyfriend hit her on the head several times died a week after being transported to the hospital, police said on Sunday.

The Imani-Dior, Monique Mitchell, died on Friday of injuries which would have been inflicted by Jerome Thomas, 19, August 28 while the baby’s mother was shopping.

When Lenesha Mitchell returned to her apartment on Union Ave. Near E. 152nd St. In the south of the Bronx after 45 minutes, she found her little girl lying on the semi-conscious bed and fighting to breathe with her face and a poorly bruised head, especially around her left eye, she told the police.

Thomas, four -month Mitchell’s boyfriend, admitted to the police that he had hit the little girl twice on the side of her head with a “heavy hand”, which makes him cry, the criminal complaint against him.

“She was the light, she changed me. She made me feel more confident in my skin as a mother for the first time. I learned of her. She was happy, intelligent, funny. Before leaving this door to go to the supermarket, I picked her up. She reached her hands towards me and gave me a kiss on my cheek.

Doctors precipitated the girl at Harlem hospital, where she was initially listed in critical but stable condition.

“When she entered the ambulance, she was stable and always breathed alone, but she was in shock and had difficulty breathing,” said Lenesha Mitchell’s sister, who asked not to be appointed.

But his condition quickly deteriorated. The baby had to be placed on a fan and life support and had an extensive subdural hemorrhage on the right side of his head, according to court documents. Doctors have desperately tried to save his life, even removing part of his skull to try to relieve the pressure of her swelling of the brain, but in the end, she could not recover.

The day after the exit of Imani-Dior at the hospital, the police arrested Thomas and accused him of criminal assault and endangered the well-being of a child. Thomas was brought to justice before the Bronx Criminal Tribunal and sentenced without surety.

Thomas is currently in detention at Robert N. Davoren Center in the Bronx. His next hearing date is September 12.
