Family has Rays’ Wander Franco detained, admitted to clinic

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – suspension of the Tampa Bay Rays Wander Franco stop, who was found guilty earlier this year of having sexually abused a minor, was detained Tuesday by police and admitted to a clinic of the Dominican Republic for mental health problems, according to the authorities.
The request to hold him and admitted came from his family, said police spokesman, Colonel Diego Pesqueira, at the Associated Press. He noted that the admission of Franco in a private clinic in his hometown of Baní is not linked to any legal question.
Last weekend, the 24-year-old went to social networks to denounce that $ 16,000 would have been stolen in a station where he was staying.
His lawyer, Teodosio Jáquez, later said that there was confusion on the incident and that the money had been found. Franco, however, rejected the remarks of his lawyer and insisted that the money had been stolen.
In June, Franco was found guilty of having sexually abused a minor and was sentenced to two years.
He had been arrested in 2024 after being accused of having had a four -month relationship with a girl who was 14 years old at the time and of transferring thousands of dollars to his mother to consent to the illegal relationship.
Franco’s future in the MLB is unknown, although he said he was still training.
In November 2021, Franco signed a contract of $ 182 million over 11 years, but his career was suddenly interrupted in August 2023, when the Dominican authorities announced that they were investigating him.
Franco was again arrested in November of last year following what the Dominican authorities called an altercation on the attention of a woman. He was accused of having illegally worn a semi-automatic glock 19 which, according to the police, was registered with his uncle.
This case is still pending before the court.
Six months after his arrest in 2024, Tampa Bay placed it on the restricted list, which cut the salary he had received on administrative leave.
He was placed on this list because he did not introduce himself to the team and needed a new American visa to do so.
