I tried the iPhone Air and it’s so exciting, I might ditch my Pro Max
Apple finally made the iPhone Air official, and after getting time for a while after the end of the “Awe Droping” event, one thing is clear: it’s beautiful and sexy. Opening videos and shiny press photos capture elegance, but iPhone air is even more impressive in person.
Beyond the simple look, you really have to hold it. It is an ergonomic delight, and although we all expected a really thin iPhone, after seeing the full list of features, it also does not have a compromise list. The battery life, of course, is the big question mark here, and my short time with this did not give me an answer on this subject.
Let’s talk about weight and thickness here. Like other iPhones, air is not heavy or lower than the bottom; It is quite well balanced and can be kept comfortably with one hand. It weighs 5.82 ounces and measures 5.64 millimeters thick. These figures scream thin, although it is not the thinnest or lightest market.
Beyond ergonomics, however, iPhone air does not seem super delicate; It is as difficult as the rest of the iPhone 17 range. It has a five -year titanium all around, which is finished with a large varnish, and is sandwiched between the last ceramic shield of Apple 2 at the front and at the rear.
Pushing all this on the side, however, the main element of iPhone air is the display. And Apple did not really cut the corners here – it is a 6.5 inch super retina screen with striking and vibrant colors, a peak brightness that took very well a brilliantly lit practical room, and above all, it has a cooling rate of 1 Hz at 120 Hz called promotion. It also means that it is still on, which is now also part of the iPhone 17 of the base – more on this subject later.
There is also the new front camera. Similar to the iPhone 17, 17 pro and 17 pro Max, the iPhone Air has the 18 -megapixel centering camera improved with a larger sensor that can adapt to more people in the shooting with a single lens. It is a careful software function that I think that many people will be really enthusiastic – much more than slogies.
This also brings us to one of the biggest dubious parts of iPhone air … at least for some. There is only one camera on the back, and it resides on a “tray” – with regard to a raised rectangle at the back of the air. Here, Apple has opted for a single merger camera of 48 megapixels which is probably not a remainder, and it gives you “two objectives” in one, because it is 1x with three focal lengths and a 2x cropped. It can also run at 12 megapixels, 24 megapixels or complete 48 -megapixel image sizes.
I would have liked to see an ultra-large here, but I can’t wait to put the iPhone to the test to see how it works. It will probably be a disappointment for some, especially if you come from a pro, but the compromise is design, because the air is really beautiful. I am currently using a 16 pro max daily daily, but I really look at the air, and it makes me ask me if I can live with a single broad goal.
This could simply be reduced to a question of space, because it is super thin, and an ultra-large lens may have taken up too much space. However, more to come here, but if you are considering air vs pro and you appreciate the cameras, I think your mind could be invented.
An area where iPhone air is almost equal to the 17 pro or 17 pro max is in terms of processor performance. The air obtains the last in Apple silicon, the A19 Pro, with a 6 -core processor, a 5 -core GPU and a brand new neural engine. This should make the air iPhone fairly fast and probably a success for most tasks – Apple noted that performance should be between the iPhone 16 Pro / Pro Max and the 17 Pro / Pro Max. However, the new thermal cooling of the latest pro range is missing.
It was a lot catchy with iOS 26 in my practical time, but the real victory here is that it gets the A19 Pro compared to another chip. Especially when you consider the price … It is only $ 200 in the United States than the basic iPhone 17 with an A19. I am not concerned about performance here, but I hope that the A19 Pro is quite effective.
For what? Well, this comes down to the battery life. Apple has almost wrapped the interior of the iPhone air with a battery from the tray down, and it even launches it as an ESIM APPAREIL only in the world to make more space for the battery inside. This will attract some eyes – less in the United States because we have had ESIM iPhones only since the family 14.
Now, I did not have the idea of the battery of practice, so this is the biggest question here. I can tell you that Apple promises a “day’s battery life” and praising the management features of the adaptive supply of iOS 26. The specification sheets also say up to 27 hours of video reading stored locally or 22 hours of video broadcast on the web.
We have to see how it works, but Apple also sells a first -party iPhone air battery that attaches magnetically at the back. You can call it the return of the Magsafe battery, although it is a crushed and more flat pack.
You can load the iPhone air with Magsafe on the back or with the USB-C port below. For this port, Apple actually had to reorganize the load port.
It is therefore my first first short impressions of the iPhone air. From the point of view of the design, I think it has been the most exciting for years, in part because Apple has put a lot of essential features inside. It is also probably our closest overview of a future folding iPhone, which could cause two of these tapping or articulated together.
If you focus on the most beautiful iPhone or the one with the most aesthetic design – the owners of Samsung frames will understand this – I think the air will probably be at the top of your list. You also get a fairly large and excellent display with still on and promotion features, the last pro-series chip and a good camera.
We will just need to see how good this unique lens is and where the battery life shakes, but at this stage, the iPhone air could break my long -standing relationship with the pro max.
