Charlie Kirk shot and killed at Utah event; “person of interest in custody,” governor says

The conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, died Wednesday after being shot down during an event at Utah Valley University. He was 31 years old.
There was contradictory information on the investigation at a press conference on Wednesday evening. Utah Spencer Cox said, “We have a person interested in detention”, but the Utah commissioner for public security, Beautiful Mason, said the suspect was still free.
Police at the University of Utah Valley said they were going to “build construction” to evacuate people.
President Trump posted on Truth Social: “The big, and even legendary, Charlie Kirk, died. No one understood or had the hearts of young people in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by all, especially me, and now he is no longer with us. Melania and my sympathies go to his beautiful wife Erika, and to the family.”
Kirk participated in an event at the Olem school in Utah, as part of the “American Comeback Tour” of his organization when he was attacked.
The university declared in a shared press release on social networks that a shot had been shot on Kirk shortly after 12 hours, and it was affected. Only one shot has been fired, two sources of application of the law at CBS News said.
The video of the incident has shown that Kirk addressed a big crowd during an outdoor debate “Prove me the bad”, where he invites students to challenge his political and cultural opinions, when the shot sounds.
Elected officials on both sides of the aisle had quickly condemned the attack on Kirk and denounced acts of political violence.
