Pray for Justice, Not Vengeance, in the Search for Charlie Kirk’s Murderer – RedState

My fear is that Charlie Kirk’s death is a catalyst for something worse. Something much darker.
As a nation, we are deeply broken. We live in a society that is isolated from humanity. We hide behind screens and are looking for voices that affirm our thoughts, and we slide later in rabbit holes filled with words that we dare not say aloud. They reflect our darkest impulses.
Charlie Kirk, whatever you think of his opinions and his policy, was a man who believed in freedom of expression and, more importantly, the freedom to debate ideas. He organized an event where he invited those who disagreed with him to come and share these disagreements. To debate ideas. And he was killed for this.
In 2020, we closed the shop as a country. We sat down, isolated in our homes, constantly scrolling through social media bubbles that we have built for ourselves. I say bubbles, but in truth, many of us have built bunkers bordered with lead that even the vision of X -rays could not see.
The result was catastrophic on our collective psyche. We no longer consider the people with whom we disagree as people. We dehumanize them to the point where a broken soul can take their lives without considering that it took a life. It takes an incredibly broken spirit to detach themselves both themselves and their “enemies” enough from humanity so that taking a life does not want to take a life. It’s just another act to defend yourself from a “more nebulous threat to democracy”.
This was not helped by many voices in the media that encouraged the use of hostile rhetoric. They called the Nazi conservatives, fascists, authorities, threats to democracy, and worse. Democratic politicians have fueled political fires by encouraging supporters to put themselves on the face of the Republicans and to interrupt their meals in restaurants. They danced dangerously near the line of threatening conservative politicians and even judges.
People who were isolated and allowed to withdraw from humanity have seen and heard all of this, and they internalized that the Republicans and Conservatives were a threat to the country. And some of them have decided to take matters into their own hands in the most vile as possible.
My biggest fear is that some on the right want revenge. The fight against the left has been our battle cry for years now, and she criticized herself in response to what the left said and did. Each side feeds on the other, and I am deeply worried, some on our side will intensify.
Pray, friends.
Pray for Kirk’s family. His wife and young children. Pray for those who were close to him. And also pray for the shooter. Pray for his broken soul. They are lost in their darkness. This is by no means a call for mercy or grace. We should, as a company, demand justice for this terrible crime. But we must pray for a soul so broken that they could stand on a roof and shoot someone for a difference in opinion.
Charlie Kirk thought we are a nation built on the basis of the debate and justice. He believed in freedom of expression and the right to debate ideas in the public square. He did not think that his opponents should be murdered in cold blood. And he believed in justice.
We are a country built on the idea of justice. We have looked for justice to tyranny through the ocean. We fought for justice for those who are not represented in the ruling class. Throughout our history, we have pressure for equal rights and justice. We were imperfect, but we fought to improve each time.
We are not a nation built on revenge. I pray that we should not become one.
