A mayor of the Chicago Region and Congress candidate has maintained his actions to thwart passive cooperation with the federal operations of the application of immigration while the DHS launches “Operation Midway Blitz” in the region.

The mayor of Evanston, Daniel Biss, a democrat who presents himself to succeed the retired representative Jan Schakowsky, D-ill., In 2026, told CNN that he was “in the dark” as for the DHS plans for Illinois in the coming days.

He also declared residents of his concerns and actions he had taken in response on Tuesday.

“The Trump administration wants to make us guess, wants to use our uncertainty to scare us, but the reason why we communicated with our residents this morning is that I obtained information from a senior state official last night indicating that they had a good intexited that it was likely that the ice would arrive in Evanston today and in the coming days.”

Biss said he had done so that residents “protect himself” from federal police.

“We did our best to protect our residents before Donald Trump takes up his duties, adopting strong sanctuary laws to ensure that the police do not cooperate with the federal application of civil immigration,” he added.

Biss explained that he had ordered that the Evanston license plate cameras are disabled after learning that the data was shared.

Unlike the red lights cameras, which publish tickets, license plates readers are often used to collect and store vehicle data for subsequent recovery.

In some cases, states or federal police forces can use data to follow the known vehicle of a suspect, noting that he was sailing a certain interchange at a specific time.

Fox News Digital contacted BISS for other comments but did not hear at the time of the press.

In a separate video that Biss recorded by leaving a Mexican independence day parade in Chicago, he said that he had used his “fast training to keep an eye on the potential ice” during the event and “if possible, keep people in attack”.

“We are going to remember for a long time what we have done right now. Let’s do the right thing,” said Biss.

When an X account linked to the Republican National Committee accused Biss of having wrongly obstructed the federal procedure, he offered a veiled slam to President Donald Trump in return.

“Hey, speaking of hindering things, how is it going with the release of Epstein files?” He wrote.

Besides, Biss has added that authoritarianism does not slip into society, it’s “there is”.

“History will remember the way Chicago was in solidarity at the moment. Stay strong, stay safe,” he said.
