A Game Called ‘Date Everything’ Literally Lets You Date Everything—Except People

“From the point of view of the SIM of traditional encounters, you generally choose an itinerary, a lover, and you go with it,” explains Chase, who was the main narrative designer in addition to doing vocal work in the game. The team thought of following a similar path before rejecting it finally to feel too limiting. “It is a game that celebrates the Polymoire by definition – you go out with everything,” he says.
Despite the inherent absurdity of his premise, Date everything is closer to modern meetings than many meetings today. The player’s character is stuck in dead end who is eaten by shady CEOs and capitalist greed. It is not always easy to find the objects you want to ask, and sometimes even when you learn quickly, there is no chemistry. Some characters carry content warnings for things like harassment or are downright rude; Others become glued or just want connections.
“We say [a story with] Many different ways that love is expressed, “says Chase.” We have characters who are explicitly excited, and all they want is a pure sex with the player. “Other characters are asexual, which means that they are not sexually attracted to others or are aromantic and do not feel romantic feelings.
For purists who do not like this idea, it’s always up to them to decide what they want. “You get to know many characters from the house, but you fall in love with them or you get friends or get enemies, it doesn’t really matter. You can always make a completely monogamous relationship with a character or with five hangers.” (The hangers generally come in a pack, so even together, they all count as one character). “We wanted to make sure that everyone’s path was as diverse as people are also diverse,” said Chase. “We did not want rehearsal between the characters thematically.”
Sassy Chap does not consider the game as a typical dating card, and the developer does not necessarily think – or needs – he perfectly in this genre. “The interest of the genus Sim Dating is to embody human experience,” explains Amanda Hufford, who has also written and played in the game. “As evolves, the genre too – or at least it should.”
Variety is as much an advantage for gender as for real encounters. “You go out, you get to know people at different depths, different durations, and it is really important to explore yourself and how you live relationships with other people – how you connect with others, what you need, what you don’t need,” said Hufford. “I don’t think so much [dating] Games necessarily give you this kind of opportunity.
Hufford adds that they think it’s good when the players find characters with whom they do not live. “It is not for them. They learn something about themselves, not only as a player but also as a person, which was somehow the goal.”
In my case, it turns out that I am not entirely interested in the dating of self-absorbed influencers. When Date everything gave me the dialogue option to end my time with Lux, I took it with pleasure: “changed my mind. I hate you.”
