Olympic snowboarder Cam Bolton suffers broken neck in training crash

Four-time Olympic snowboarder Cam Bolton was airlifted to a hospital in Milan after suffering a broken neck while training for Thursday’s snowboard cross event.

Bolton, 35, crashed on Monday but walked away from the incident without realizing the severity of his injury. ESPN reported. The next day he felt increasing pain in his neck and scans later revealed he had two fractures to his neck.

He was flown from the mountains to Milan for treatment.

The team’s mission leader, Alisa Camplin, gave an update on Bolton’s condition, adding that she was “proud of the level of care” he was receiving.

“Cam wanted his teammates to understand what was going on and that he was OK, that he was OK and that he was well taken care of,” she said, via ESPN. “He knows how seriously we take the support process around him and the communication has been really good.”

“Cam is in a stable condition and remains in good spirits,” the Australian Olympic Committee added in a statement. to Reuters Wednesday. “The Australian Olympic Medical Team is working with local doctors and neurospecialists in Australia to determine the next steps for further assessment and treatment.”

Bolton made his Olympic debut at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, where he finished 11th. He has two top-10 finishes, 10th in PyeongChang in 2018 and ninth in the mixed team event in Beijing in 2022.

He won silver in the team event at the 2025 World Championships.
