5 ways Netflix is becoming more than a streaming service for movies and TV

In a crowded streaming ecosystem, Netflix remains by far the most popular service on the market. It remains the largest streaming service with more than 325 million paying subscribers worldwide, including 67 million from the United States. Content curation is Netflix’s greatest strength, as the streamer’s library includes more than 10,000 titles: movies, TV shows, documentaries, and specials.
In 2026, Netflix continues to adapt and adapt to the times by offering subscribers more options outside of streaming movies and TV shows. Offering movies and TV shows is Netflix’s bread and butter. However, the streamer has ventured into other avenues in hopes of becoming a one-stop-shop for all forms of content. Here’s What US Netflix Audiences Can Do When They’re Not Watching Discuss or the last season of Stranger Things.
Watch podcasts
Netflix’s attempt to become YouTube
When streaming services like Netflix talk about fighting for attention, their biggest competitor is YouTube. According to the Pew Research Center, 85% of American adults use YouTube. People want to watch videos. It has also become a competitor to Spotify and Apple Music in the podcast space. Almost every major podcast now offers videos, so fans can watch entire episodes or snippets of viral moments.
Netflix has signed several agreements with several podcasts to broadcast video for each episode. Show as The Bill Simmons Podcast, Forgive my opinion, Murder with my husbandand Rory & Mal are now available to stream on Netflix. The streamer has also created original podcasts to accompany its most popular shows. For example, a The Bridgerton Chronicles The podcast was paired with the most recent season of the series so fans could dig deeper into each episode. I even streamed a few episodes of The Rewatchables during my free time. It won’t replace YouTube, but it’s an interesting alternative.

Play games
Game Night is coming to Netflix
Are there any players in the building? Netflix now offers a section entirely dedicated to games. You can enjoy it best on your mobile device using the Netflix app. Your classic games, like solitaire and pinball, are ideal for passing the time. However, games on Netflix have become more complex. Subscribers can now play Red Dead Redemption And WWE 2K25: Netflix Edition on their phones, which is a fascinating development in the mobile gaming space.
To make Netflix a social app, the service has added board games to make your next game night easier. Pictionary: Game Night, Tetris Time Warp, Boggle Party, And LEGO Party can be played on your TV, with your phone serving as the controller. Personally, I think Dead Man’s Party: a game of daggers drawn has the most potential, given the rise of escape rooms and murder mystery parties.
Netflix Playground
Entertainment for your children
I’m not a parent. However, I encountered the difficulty of capturing a child’s attention. Entertaining a child for 10 minutes can be more difficult than rocket science. Netflix is a parent’s best friend with all the kid-friendly movies and TV shows. Netflix helps parents even more with the addition of Netflix Playground.
Games don’t have to be just for adults. Netflix Playground is a mobile app offering games for children aged 8 and under. Included in all Netflix subscriptions, these special games feature recognizable characters from shows your kids love, including Sesame Street And Peppa Pig. The best part is that these games contain no ads or hidden fees. There is no scarier visual than when an ad interrupts a child’s play. Hopefully Netflix Playground can prevent future tantrums.
Watch sports
Netflix wants more live sports
If you’re not familiar with hearings and hearings, I’ll give you a brief summary. In 2025, 83 of the most-watched television shows in the United States were NFL football games. If you’re a major network in the United States, you need the NFL to survive. The same principles now apply to streaming services that have entered the world of live sports.
In 2024, Netflix reached a historic deal to stream NFL football games on Christmas Day. This tradition will continue in 2026. Netflix has added football, baseball, boxing, MMA and WWE to its roster. I will definitely be tuning in for Ronda Rousey’s comeback fight against Gina Carano on May 16th. As for the presentation, there are a few issues in every show that are unavoidable. However, Netflix has smartly hired reputable commentators to legitimize their announcing teams. I only expect Netflix to add, not subtract, more live sporting events to its roster.
Streaming concerts
The streamer gets the best artists
Remember when I said Netflix was competing with YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music in the podcast space? The streaming service also wants to carve out a place in the music industry. Netflix has always produced renowned documentaries. However, the service has strengthened its musical presence with the addition of live specials and concerts.
Look what Netflix just did with BTS, the biggest boy band in the world. The streamer streamed the band’s comeback concert last month in honor of their new album. Netflix pulled a similar stunt with Harry Styles and his One night only concert in Manchester. I like to put some music on in the background when I’m cooking, writing, or relaxing. If Netflix continues to add new gigs to its arsenal, then they’ll get some streams from yours truly.
More Netflix content coming soon
