Venezuela apparently saved itself from another US invasion by willingly handing over political prisoners to the Trump administration.

Donald Trump revealed Friday that there was a planned arrangement to attack Venezuela a second time, while noting that the offensive maneuver had since been called off in light of Venezuela’s capitulation regarding the release of prisoners.

“Venezuela releases large number of political prisoners in ‘search for peace’ It’s a very important and smart move,” Trump said. job on Truth Social early Friday morning.

“The United States and Venezuela are working well together, particularly in rebuilding their oil and gas infrastructure in a much bigger, better and more modern form,” Trump continued. “Through this cooperation, I have canceled the previously expected second wave of attacks, which does not appear to be necessary, however, all ships will remain in place for safety and security reasons.

“At least $100 billion will be invested by BIG OIL, all of whom I will meet with today at the White House,” he added.

The move comes just hours after five Senate Republicans joined Democrats to advance the war powers resolution, which would require Trump to seek congressional approval before carrying out new military offensives in Venezuela. The Senate will take a final vote on the bill next week, after which the measure must pass the House and then be signed by Trump.

U.S. forces invaded Venezuela early Saturday, bombing its capital, Caracas, as nearly 200 U.S. troops infiltrated the city to capture its 13-year leader, Nicolas Maduro.

The narrative surrounding Trump’s attack on Venezuela is very different from other U.S. foreign intervention efforts. While the George W. Bush administration insisted that its invasion of Iraq was intended to quell terrorism and remove the country’s nuclear capabilities – a claim that was received dubiously by the American public, given that the country was at the time one of the world’s largest oil suppliers – Trump was quick to confess to reporters that the main reason for his own military incursion against Venezuela was, in reality, for oil.

On Tuesday, Trump announced that the United States would oversee the sale of some 50 million barrels of sanctioned Venezuelan oil, a sale that could be worth as much as $2.5 billion. The next day, Energy Secretary Chris Wright said America would continue to oversee and sell Venezuelan oil “indefinitely,” even after the government finishes eating away at the Latin American country’s oil reserves.

In an interview with The New York Times released Thursday, Trump claimed the United States would likely rule Venezuela for years.

“Only time will tell,” Trump said. “We’re going to rebuild it very cost-effectively.”
