‘A resounding home run’ – the Nothing Ear (a) earbuds are some of the best we’ve tested and they even converted me from being an in-ear headphones skeptic

As a headphone user for most of my life, I have often avoided headphones and in-ear headphones. I found them too uncomfortable and thought they lacked the raw power and sound quality you get from a pair of headphones. However, times have changed and I needed a quality yet affordable pair of headphones. Fortunately, I found some.
The Nothing Ear(a) are the best budget option in our guide to the best headphones and, frankly, they made me a believer. While they were a great price when I bought them (at £79), they are now even cheaper.

Now I’m a believer
For me, there’s nothing better than the best headphones for walking around. Whether I’m listening to the exhilarating sounds of Bruce Springsteen or the often crushing and brutal sound of Dir En Grey, I’m always ready to grab my trusty Sennheiser Momentum 4.
However, life dictated that I needed headphones, which I had avoided because I often found them too uncomfortable, too difficult and most of the time disappointing. But headphones can be cumbersome at the gym or when you go out to meet friends, so headphones were necessary.
After hearing and reading about the Nothing Ear(a) from Becky Scarrott, our own audio editor, I purchased a pair and was immediately impressed. In her glowing review of Nothing Ear(a), she said the Nothing Ear(a) had a “fun, zealous, expansive sound” and I couldn’t agree more.
When listening to my music, I still received the driving guitars, thumping drums, and thick basslines of my favorite metal bands, but most importantly, the sound was always balanced. There was a lot of detail and nuance for the pieces of the Final Fantasy X a soundtrack, regular listening while I work, but enough life listening to my ever-changing 80s playlist. No matter the genre, Ear(a) headphones can handle it.
I was also very impressed by the Ear(a)’s excellent ANC, which did an excellent job of drowning out unwanted noise, even on busy streets. With an impressive battery life of 9.5 hours for the earbuds (5.5 with ANC enabled) and 42.5 hours for the case (24.5 with ANC enabled), these earbuds also have excellent battery life. Design-wise, while I may have chosen the more conservative black pair, the striking yellow ensemble is unique and a real sight to behold.
Yes, I might still prefer a pair of headphones for marathon listening sessions, but my Nothing Ear(a) has yet to let me down so far.
