AAG Dhillon Lowers the Boom on UC Berkeley After TPUSA Violence – RedState

My colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell did an excellent report on the violence at the TPUSA event at the University of California, Berkeley on Monday.
Things spiraled out of control as violence erupted and efforts by radical leftists attempted to break down the barriers keeping them from the sold-out event.

Then there was this exchange, which began when the agitators harassed an attendee who was wearing Charlie Kirk’s “Freedom” t-shirt and trying to talk about Jesus Christ. It ended in violence and an arrest. “Chinga la Migra” basically means “F**k the immigration authorities.”

UC Berkeley (Nov. 10) — A far-left extremist stole a conservative man’s necklace, then punched him in the face multiple times as he tried to take it back outside the TPUSA event. The victim was bloodied and the leftists made fun of him because he was white.pic.twitter.com/n5aaiU75mG

One of the agitators harassed the man in the red shirt, calling him a “white boy,” while the agitators attempted to “de-arrest” the other man and keep him away from the police. They didn’t succeed.
Berkeley police now say the man in the plaid shirt, Jihad Dphrepaulezz, took the chain that the man in the Freedom shirt had around his neck and that the man was trying to get it back. Police said Dphrepaulezz was arrested on suspicion of robbery and battery resulting in injury.
Today, Deputy Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon weighed in on the matter, and she’s not happy with how Berkeley handled the matter. Looks like Berkeley has a lot of explaining to do. She noted that there had been problems there before.
We saw all of this in Berkeley in 2017. @UCBerkeley was sued and settled the case.
THE @CivilRights I will investigate what happened here, and I see several serious issues regarding campus and local security and Antifa’s ability to operate with impunity in California. https://t.co/aN7JzouXwl

She warned the university and the city of Berkeley to expect correspondence.
Berkeley: @UCBerkeley and the city of Berkeley should expect arrivals @CivilRights correspondence. And more. In America, we do not allow citizens to be attacked by violent thugs, shrug their shoulders and turn their backs on them. Been there, done that, not on our watch.

It didn’t take long. She said the Civil Rights Division began a thorough investigation and sent letters to the university president and university police.
Mob attacks and brutal intimidation of participants exercising their First Amendment rights are unacceptable.
