After years away from my guitar, this app has made learning songs easier than I ever thought possible
After a long period of time, I finally come back to play the guitar. I am sure that many amateur players have experienced a similar story – whether it is a lack of time or too many broken strings, it is easy to define your six strings and spend weeks, months or even years without recovering it. And when you finally come back in the saddle, it can be difficult to remember your favorite tunes, or even the structure of certain agreements.
However, there is hope for the learners and the return to the guitar – all you need is a trip to the App Store or Google Play Store.

If you have already tried to learn the guitar, there is a good chance that you have heard of the ultimate guitar. The platform started its life as a website in 1998 and has since expanded to applications for Apple and Android phones and tablets, with a huge collection of official and submitted tabs, scores and graphics of agreements.
During my recent return to the game, I used the ultimate guitar on slab phones, folding phones and tablets, and I tested the premium application features with the free trial offer of a week. Having spent serious hours with an ultimate guitar, this is why it gets my recommendation.
So many songs
The very first thing to note on the ultimate guitar is the number of songs you will find there. You can consider each song as a classic written partition, as a tab, or as words with changes in labeled chords. I am especially interested in learning a few songs to bother people at home, so the last format is my favorite.
The better -known tracks can have officially verified tabs or scores, which are only accessible to UG Pro subscribers. The subscription costs $ 24.99 / £ 7.99 per month or $ 99.99 / £ 39.99 per year (we contacted the ultimate guitar for Australian prices). That said, I found that the versions downloaded by the user were as good or better than the official tabs, at least most of the time. Each downloaded version is delivered with a star note, which facilitates the search for well transcribed songs.
Throughout my time with an ultimate guitar, I was continuously surprised by the number of songs I could find. My collection quickly filled with classics from Fleetwood Mac and John Martyn alongside cuts for new groups like The 1975 and Big Thief, which facilitates the construction of a large music library to practice.
It was also joyfully easy to find tracks that land outside the traditional rock and pop cannon; I was able to load my collection with gems by Frank Ocean, Sampha and Charli XCX. Since a large part of the database is generated by the user, everything you need for a song appears is that a user transcribes it.
Perfect practice
Once you have chosen a song to train, the ultimate guitar turns out to be filled with practical features. On the agreements of agreements, any agreement can be used for a diagram showing how to play it, and the UG Pro subscribers can transpose the whole song or “simplify” difficult agreements.
UG Pro subscribers are also linked to the possibility of playing in the application, although users can also do it by simply playing the song via their choice of choice or via another device. However, I hope that the possibility of automatically scrolling a sheet was available for free users. It is the only really essential feature that is locked behind a payment wall.
However, many of the most useful advice come from users who write in the “margins” – notes left by the authors on exactly when changing the agreements, the suggested game styles, etc. This gives the ultimate guitar a feeling of authority and community difficult to find elsewhere.
He follows that the experience is at its best on larger screens. The huge 14.6 -inch display on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra tab was a precious canvas for graphics and tabs of agreements, while folding Honor Magic V5 offers a large screen in a more flexible factor – although one of the best tablets or the best folding phones would be well bailed with the application. The ultimate guitar is still practical on slab phones, but the interface can feel a crowded touch.
Admittedly, there are announcements to face if you do not want to subscribe to UG PRO, and the one -week trial is shaded to the expensive annual subscription – I can just remember in time. However, its massive library and ease of use make the ultimate guitar my application of choices when I feel musical.
