EXPERT OPINION
ESPN Liverpool correspondent Beth Lindop looks at Andy Robertson’s future.
Although there is no official announcement yet, it seems inevitable that Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer.
The 31-year-old defender was linked with a move away from Anfield last summer, with Atletico Madrid among the interested parties. Ultimately, the transfer did not materialize and Robertson made 17 Premier League appearances this season, although he is now behind summer signing Milos Kerkez in the pecking order.
It was this desire for more minutes that prompted Robertson to consider a January move to Tottenham Hotspur, with the London club keen to add both experience and quality to their struggling squad. And although numerous defensive injuries at Liverpool have thwarted that move, it seems certain that Robertson will leave as a free agent in July.
Should Wrexham secure promotion to the top flight, it would be a real coup for them to secure the services of the Scotland captain, who will surely have no shortage of suitors.
