AltStore’s alternative iPhone app store is coming to more countries

Alstore PAL, which was launched as one of the first EU IOS IOS application stores last year, arrives in more countries, the developer Riley Tesut announced today. “More specifically, we plan to launch in Japan, Brazil and Australia before the end of the year, the United Kingdom to follow in 2026,” said Tesut. The launch in more countries is “by far our number one request”, although the Alstore team is still waiting to hear Apple more “on the exact timing”.
Testut also indicates that Alstore is a big blow in the Fediverse using the ActivityPub protocol in “female applications, updates of applications and newsstore news to the open social web”. Here’s how it will work, according to Testut:
Each Alstore source will receive its own ActivityPub account, which can then be followed by any other open social web account. You can love, stimulate and respond to everything, and above all all these interactions will natively appear in Altstore. In other words, you can comment on an application on mastodon, such as a news update on threads, then open alstore and display all these same interactions in the application.
The Alstore team works with Mastodon GGMBH to “manage a personalized mastodon server on our behalf” (it is available in beta now) and with the non -profit organization a new social to support Bluesky using the Fed Bridgy tool. The Fediverse features will come to Altstore Pal in “The next months”, says Tesut.
Alstore also obtains an investment of $ 6 million from Pace Capital Pace of the member of the Patreon board of directors, so that the team can hire more staff and add “the bandwidth necessary to finalize the integration of Fediverse and develop Altstore worldwide,” said Tesut. Paik will join the Alstore Board of Directors, as is the CEO of Flipboard, Mike McCue, who is a big fan of Fediverse.
