Modern humans and Neanderthals may have interacted 100,000 years earlier than we thought before. It is according to researchers who have used computed tomography and 3D cartography to study the bones of a child who, according to them, are the result of burial between the two distinct groups. The child was buried in a cave in Israel about 140,000 years ago. Because no old DNA has been extracted from fossilized remains, it is impossible to confirm the origins of the child, but scientists say that microscopic details in the bones indicate that the child had features of the two groups. The results were published recently in the Reading Committee review Anthropology.
