Andrew Mukuba shares his gameplan for becoming one of the NFL's top safeties
So how good Andrew Mukuba is? It becomes more and more obvious that conversations on the security of the Eagles of Philadelphia all bring back to this question. It is a second round choice, the 64th player taken during the last NFL draft. It should fill the void created by the departure of CJ Gardner-Johnson.
Lance Zierlein de NFL.com gave him a note of 6.20 in his Profile of Pre-Rôti, which means that he thinks that Mukuba will finally become an average starter. The “average” is not, however, how many people describe his game. It may have been taken at the end of Tour 2, but some recourse experts have given him late first round notes.
Some called him undersized. Six feet high, he measures an inch more than Gardner-Johnson and two inches more than Sydney Brown, but he is 20 pounds lighter than both.
He is a former college teammate by Will Shipley and Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
"You must be able to do everything – cover the game of passes, support the race, attack and you must know everyone’s assignments and where you are supposed to be. It is important to learn defense, and this is the first priority. You do this, then your physical capacity takes care of itself."
These are the words of Mukuba while he spoke with the initiate of the Eagles Dave Spadaro of what is necessary to be a great safety of the NFL. It looks good. Mukuba has proven its college ensemble in the ACC and the dry. He won the defensive recruit of the ACC of the year, the honors of the third All-ECC team and the first-year all-year-old honors in 2021. He was appointed winner of the third All-Sec team in 2024.
None of this will help him at the highest level of football. The good news, however, is that his state of mind will. What does he promise that bird fans will see in his performance? Fans of the Eagles will undoubtedly love his answer:
"There are guys like Budda Baker (Arizona Cardinals) and Brian Branch (Detroit Lions) who are in size similar to me and they were guys that I have sort of shaped. I’m going to be aggressive and intelligent and play with everything I have, all my heart."
It’s an excellent start!
"I have a lot of energy and I have always had energy, and therefore for me to go out on the field and have fun, it’s a bit like being in the park with your friends playing ball and being physical and helping my team win. That’s all that matters – helping Eagles win. I want to do my part, perfect my role and enjoy everything to be an eagle of Philadelphia."
Forget everything you have heard about its size or tendency to miss the plated. That’s all we had to read. He will be fine.
Players are rarely polite when they reach the NFL. Most have something they need to work on. It is no different from Drew Mukuba, but everything that is seen and heard seems to be a step in the right direction. With his state of mind, he will go well. There is no doubt about it.
