Andy Dick has ‘5 to 7 holes’ in his brain after L.A. overdose

Comedian Andy Dick is speaking out about the apparent near-fatal crack overdose he suffered on a busy Los Angeles street late last year.
The 59-year-old comedian revealed Tuesday on the “Howie Mandel Does Stuff” podcast that his heart actually stopped beating during the incident on Dec. 9, 2025. He said he doesn’t really remember it, but was told he stopped breathing and was turning “purple.”
Dick said the only thing he remembered was “waking up in the ambulance.” He added that “there were no bright lights.”
Following the incident, Dick said doctors carried out a brain scan, which revealed “about five to seven holes” in his brain, affecting his memory.
The “NewsRadio” star, born Andrew Thomlinson, has long been transparent about his struggles with addiction. His meeting with Mandel comes about three months after he was recorded slumped and unconscious in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. The clips show him wearing a brown jacket, Crocs and pajama pants, while his signature glasses are on the floor in front of him, next to an open canned drink.
Several bystanders reportedly tried to help him, including someone who administered Narcan – a drug to reverse an opioid overdose – and successfully revived him.
Since then, Dick has lived in a sober living community where he is not “allowed” to use any substances.
“They test you,” he said. “I’m not high. I don’t take pills. I don’t do anything but coffee.”
Dick, a father of three grown children and a third grandchild on the way, added that he does his best to stay sober and healthy for his family.
“I gotta do it, buddy. I just gotta do it,” he told Mandel. “Do you know how hard this is for me?”
