Another Trump ‘Golden Age’ Effect? New Poll Says Republicans Are Drinking Less – RedState
It’s a bit difficult to ignore. Since the presidential election last November, it is quite easy to spot the Republicans. We are those who seem to have permanent smiles painted on our faces. Many Americans are pushing relief sighs since the night of the elections, perhaps a little more secretly. But a new Gallup survey can have another clue on how you see the Republicans in a crowded part. They are the ones who slide on the Shirley temples, and they are very good with that. Could life be a little softer these days for the GOP?

The new Gallup survey shows that the Republicans swear alcohol at record levels up to a lower than 90 years. The number of American adults in general who did not drink alcohol fell to 54%, in July 2025. It is the lowest percentage of alcohol consumption in the Americans since the start of the survey in 1939. It is the most significant decrease among self-identified republicans.

According to the survey, 46% of Republicans said they had consumed alcohol this year, a decrease of almost a third compared to 2023. However, the Democrats who said they had consumed alcohol were only 5%. Gee, I wonder why … While we chew possible reasons that Democrats may have to drown their sorrows, the survey also revealed that the consumption habits of Americans in general could change due to a reassessment of the overall effects of health alcohol. Data has shown that two thirds of people aged 18 to 34 now say that drinking in moderation, which is defined as one to two glasses per day, was bad for their health. Half of those in this group do not drink at all, an increase of 41% in 2023.
Some members of the alcohol industry assumed why alcohol consumption among Americans is decreasing. The reasons are from the availability of legal marijuana to the use of GLP-1 obesity drugs. But for the Republicans, the reasons for their support far from the bar are even more varied. President Trump could be the most famous republican teetotaler. It was very open not to drink after the death of his brother, Fred, Jr., just 42 years old alcoholism. Secretary of Health and Social Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also swore alcohol after being addicted to heroin in her youth. Other eminent republicans such as Tucker Carlson and the founder of Turning Point USA Charlie Kirk do not drink either. There are also speculations according to which certain groups of voters targeted by the GOP, such as evangelical Christians, Mormons and Amish, have increased the number of republicans who do not drink.

Alcohol consumption has dropped overall in almost all demographics, especially women, whites and those in low and high income categories. Those who drink say they drink an average of 2.8 glasses, against 3.8 in 2024.

But let’s go back to democrats whose consumption habits have only decreased by five percent. It’s a bit easy to see why. They have to endure Donald Trump three and a half years. If they had not thrown everything except the sink of the kitchen from the minute when he went down to the Trump Tower escalator, they would have finished with him in 2024. Now, they have to face a Trump who does not have to worry about re -election, unless it is to trolle them and say that he does not think “probably in 2028.
Oh, of course, there are those of us who have our adventures watered to say, those where we insert the word “allegedly” before the best. Rest assured, we will have more … cocktails and their related stories. But many of our republican brothers have decided that the best way to discover Trump’s golden age is sober.
