Nezza Sings National Anthem In Spanish At Dodgers Game

Under the foreign policy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the State Department called for submissions for a singable version in the Spanish language of the national anthem to distribute in Latin America. A Peruvian immigrant composer named Clotilde Arias wrote the winning song, entitled “El Pendón Estrellado”, in 1945. He remains the only Spanish version of the national anthem authorized to be sung.
