Anti-ICE Protesters Block 6th Street Bridge in Downtown Los Angeles

The anti-ice demonstrators took over and blocked the 6th street bridge in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday while the Trump administration is intensifying deportation efforts.
The demonstrations broke out for the first time around noon, with a video showing at least 150 to 200 people blocking traffic on the historic bridge. Many have carried panels condemning immigration and customs (ICE) operations in the city, according to CBS News:
Several piloted flags show the Los Angeles Tenants Union logo, an organization defending the rights of tenants throughout the city. Last week, the Union called city officials Like Mayor Karen Bass to impose an expulsion moratorium, as many unauthorized immigrants are afraid of going to work while ice officers continue to carry out operations, they said.
The office of the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, did not comment on the demonstration.
A representative of the Union of Los Angeles Tenants (LATU), who identified himself as illegally in the United States, said that the ice repression had caused economic stagnation in certain communities.
“We know that many tenants will not be able to pay their rent on July 1,” said the representative. “For what? Because this militarization of our community … closed businesses, removed from street sellers, separate families and then people cannot pay their rent. They barely have the minimum to survive. “
Tuesday’s demonstrations seem to follow the Latu’s previous call for a “community strike” against the ice.
“For kidnapped, for detainees, for children whose parents are missing, for those who cannot work and for those who cannot pay the rent, the city must stop!” The group said.
“We call our members and our supporters: do not work, do not take public transport and do not do business. Join the efforts of the field in your neighborhood,” he added.
