ChatGPT-5.2 Is OpenAI’s Answer to Google’s Gemini 3 Pro

Last Thursday, OpenAI announced ChatGPT-5.2, which delivers better performance across the board. It’s also the company’s strongest science and math model. In the announcement press release, OpenAI states that people using the latest model for work-related tasks will see the greatest benefit, not necessarily people who use ChatGPT on a daily basis.

“We designed GPT-5.2 to unlock even more economic value for people,” the statement said. “It’s best for creating spreadsheets, creating presentations, writing code, perceiving images, understanding long contexts, using tools, and managing complex, multi-step projects.”

Earlier this month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sent out an internal “code red” memo to alert employees of the growing threat from competitors, particularly from Google and its advanced chatbot Gemini 3, launched in November. The movement echoes Google’s “code red” memo from a few years ago, sent during the launch of ChatGPT and which attracted worldwide attention.
