Appeals court allows Trump’s administration to block Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood
Boston – A panel of the American Court of Appeal enabled the administration of President Donald Trump to block the funds of Medicaid in Planned Parenthood while the judicial disputes continue.
A federal judge in July ruled that Planned Parenthood Clinics on a national level must continue to be reimbursed for the funding of Medicaid while the largest abortion supplier in the country fights the administration of Trump on efforts to finance the organization in its tax legislation.
Medicaid is a governmental health care program that serves millions of low -income and disabled Americans. Almost half of Planned Parenthood patients count on Medicaid.
A provision of Trump’s tax bill asked the federal government to end Medicaid payments for one year to abortion suppliers who received more than $ 800,000 from Medicaid in 2023, even those like Planned Parenthood which also offer medical services such as contraception, pregnancy tests and MST tests.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its members members of Massachusetts and Utah filed a complaint in July against the Secretary of Health and Social Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“While the Trump administration wants to ride freedom of reproduction, we are there to say loud and clear: we will not back down,” said Dominique Lee, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts in a statement. “It’s not over.”
The United States Ministry of Health and Social Services did not immediately respond to a request for online comments.
Planned Parenthood said that Thursday’s decision means that more than 1.1 million patients cannot use their Medicaid insurance in its health centers. This also puts up to 200 of these health centers at risk of closing, Planned Parenthood said in a press release.
Planned Parenthood says it is the main supplier and defender of affordable sexual and reproductive health care, as well as the country’s largest sex education supplier.
