Apple could give Siri a big Gemini upgrade – here are 5 reasons why I really hope that happens

Apple would be in discussion with Google to add Gemini to Private Cloud Compute, ready to feed Siri with Apple Intelligence.
The news came from the best initiate Mark Gurman, who said: “A few weeks ago, Apple approached the research giant on creating a version of its Gemini AI models.”
Gurman even said that Google was developing this personalized model at the moment with Apple’s involvement, pointing to the potential of an Apple Intelligence brand propelled by Google Gemini.
As a Senior Techradar’s writer, I test all the best AI models, and Google Gemini is up there with my favorite chatbots on the market.
Apple’s strategy has been disappointing, to say the least, but Cupertino -based company reports bringing Google to Apple Intelligence superpower could be the best thing that has been going on to the iPhone for years.
Here are five reasons why I really hope that Apple will add Google Gemini to Siri.
1. Gemini Live is the best in class
AI vocal assistants are everywhere these days, but we are still waiting for Apple Surraine Siri with Apple Intelligence.
Although the advanced OpenAi chatgpt vocal mode is good, it is not part of Gemini Live from Google, who, I believe, is the best vocal assistant powered by AI on smartphones at the moment.
I love Gemini Live so much, in fact, that I assigned the voice assistant to the action button of my iPhone 16 Pro Max, by frequently using it instead of activating Siri on my device.
If Apple seeks to feed Siri via an AI model from another technology giant, then Gemini Live is proof that Google is the perfect partner to do it.
Apple has a replacement of Siri ready to use in front, and all he needs is the Chic brand and compliance with the strict vision of Apple privacy.
2. Gemini already reads your email and your calendar
One of the best ways to use the gemini at the moment is to ask questions according to your other Google services, such as Gmail and Google Calendar.
The addition of Gemini to Siri would allow iPhone users to ask questions about these incredibly popular services, which brought us closer to the AI personal assistant that everyone hopes.
Since the AI model is already able to press Google Services, you expect it to be relatively easy for Apple and Google to offer similar capacities with Apple’s most popular applications, such as mail, notes and calendar.
When Apple revealed Apple Intelligence last year, Siri was able to listen to your requests and implement them on iOS. Gemini is already doing this on Android, so why not allow him to do the same on iPhone?
3. A gentle transition
The AI options available are endless, so having a certain parity between iPhone and Android would actually be an excellent thing for smartphones users.
Think about it, Gemini fuels AI into the best flagship Android devices like the Samsung S25 and the Google Pixel 10. But what happens if a similar experience was grouped in each iPhone, with a little more apple varnish?
I would love to use Gemini as a Go-To AI assistant on my iPhone, and frankly, I already do it. However, having integrated him into Siri would make him feel even more comfortable on the iPhone, and better for consumers, this means that the passage to Android or Vice Versa, from the point of view of the AI, would be incredibly fluid.
4. It’s ready to leave
I don’t know about you, but I get bored to wait for a new version of Siri capable of what I want from a voice assistant.
And frankly, the idea of buying an iPhone 17 without any Siri improvement makes me feel a little bitter towards the next iPhone.
Gemini works, and it is already good to go, so add the implementation to Siri and feed the vocal assistant from Apple with the fierce work of Google would mean a smart Siri than late.
Currently, I have no hope for an SIRI propelled by AI by the end of the year, and honestly, it is a real disappointment, since I bought the iPhone 16 Pro Max with the promise of “AI for the rest of us”.
If Apple has chosen to use Gemini, we could get the SIRI IA that we wanted for what very soon looks like an eternity, and it is only a good thing for Apple users who are not impressed by a voice assistant who knows what year it is.
5. There is already a fruitful partnership
Google and Apple have been working together for a very long time, with Google Search as the default search engine on Safari.
This relationship could be in danger with an antitrust case of several billion dollars which will soon be decided in the United States. According to this trial, there could be a big change in the opinion of the iPhone, and this could require new agreements between the two companies.
Could AI and Gemini be at the forefront of discussions? Gurman says that companies have not yet discussed this issue, but he believes that “if Apple and Google reach an agreement, it would also be the basis of a new arrangement around research”.
Apple could choose to avoid the use of a Gemini AI model to feed the Apple Intelligence, but given what we have seen so far, I hope Tim Cook and Co are considering at least.
